I never quite get who would actually buy a damaged repairable vehicle as they always look overpriced.

Even if you were just buying it to fix for yourself, you're still gonna want to flog it eventually and given that you're gonna have to price it lower than a non-damaged vehicle I can't see that they make economic sense.

If you had the time and space it would break for far more than it's cost... engine, gearbox and rear and front axles would recoup any costs... totally agree that to repair for resale would be madness..

The expense isn't in the cosmetic parts needed, its in getting the thing running.
No keys, If keys cant be made you may have to swap the ECU etc.
Also its a 2.8 import and an Auto box, so limited audience if you were to break it.

So from what you're saying, about 400 total loss vehicles are bought every week and are then repaired and used or sold on at a profit?

I can see how it could be doable if its only minor damage (say stolen/recovered with only lock damage) but its the ones that are proper smashed up (such as the L200 listed earlier in this thread). If you guesstimate the cost of fixing that properly added to the cost of buying it and then you have to disclose that its a Cat C or D which ultimately narrows your market and reduces your potential asking price, where's the profit? I suppose if you're a garage and have access to parts and paint at trade then you can make a profit but I'm talking about your average Joe. If I bought that L200 and got a bodyshop and garage to repair it, would I still be able to sell it for a profit?

Garages do buy them! The more you can do yourself the cheaper it is - some are stolen recovered/minimal damage. My yard only covers Scotland

While they look great and are very capable off road, often they are not legal due to low speed ratings and funny load ratings. Most pay and play sites are a bit off about using overly aggressive treads too so you want to be sure you can use tractor/dumper tyres before you buy them.
Good find though
