Hi Guys
Needed to use my truck in 4wd for an hour or so but am now unable to get the shift stick to budge to get it back into 2wd mode, cannot push/press it, it has very little movement at all. Very worried as its obviously not going to do it any good long term . Am no mechanic either.....Any help greatly received and appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Possibly a selector problem,
Take the centre console out and then you can loosen the 4 screws around the transfer box lever,
It may be possible for you to move it into 2WD when it loosens.
I've attached a doc which relates to the issue

Is it a SS or ES gearbox? if its ES you could try reversing back a few feet then try getting it out of 4WD. (may have a bit of diff wind up)
When in 4WD low you have to push on the stick when using diff lock positions.

Shows I don't deserve to own the bluddy thing ha, I believe I must have SS as there is 4 settings, the last has the press down select, it is currently stuck in the middle.

Hi, I have only just attempted to look as I have been away with family stuff and driving the wifes Audi and my baby been sat forlornly on the drive. As first imagined I am scuppered/stuck on removing the blinking consoles around the levers themselves and cannot find how to....yet......

A couple of screws inside the armrest compartment, then 2 push buttons on the front (1 in each footwell.) I can't remember if you pop the leather gear surround out first.

The 2 screws/bolts are in the bottom of the armrest compartment, I have a pic but will have to find another way to upload as it's on the iPad.
Procedure should be;
1. Remove gear knobs
2. Remove 2x front press rivets.
3. Remove 2x rear screws/bolts.
4. As you lift it up disconnect the rear screen switch and cig lighter. You can do this by removing the small panel that they are fixed to or as you lift the console.
5. There is probably a rubber cover over your transfer lever base, with a small hose attached. This can be lifted to access the 4x bolts holding the transfer lever in.
6. As you loosen the bolts try to move the lever back into 2wd, if this doesn't work then it will have to be lifted out ( watch out for the spring) and repositioned. The issue is likely to be with the domed plate on the transfer lever, I have seen some repaired but I found it easier to buy another from a breakers (I paid £40.00).

Soo....
The 2 screws/bolts are in the bottom of the armrest compartment - DONE
1. Remove gear knobs - DONE
2. Remove 2x front press rivets. - DONE - although don't want to go back same way
3. Remove 2x rear screws/bolts. - DONE
4. As you lift it up disconnect the rear screen switch and cig lighter. - DONE
5. There is probably a rubber cover over your transfer lever base, with a small hose attached. - Rubber cover removed {like a sound dampener} Also lifted a joined set of rubber boots over the levers, they are bare now and can see two further gold important looking bolts and too scared to go any further. Cannot see anything obvious and tried shifting it whilst moving and looking at it and it has the tiniest of play.
6. As you loosen the bolts try to move the lever back into 2wd, if this doesn't work then it will have to be lifted out ( watch out for the spring) - TOO SCARED to go further...

Go for it!
I did mine whilst stuck in a large mud pit, put it back together without the spring and ran it for a year without (didn't need low ratio).
When the four bolts around the transfer lever are removed then the lever will lift out, you can then put it back and fiddle it a little until it is back in 2wd.
What normally happens is the transfer lever slips under the domed plate holding it in and needs to be loosened to free it.

How did you get on Jimmy?
If you still have problems or are nervous in taking the lever out then it is probably worth putting it into a garage.
Basically it is a 30 minute job, but they workshop may try and get you to have a new shift lever circa £400. Don't bother with this as there are plenty of breakers who have these if necessary

Heya, so I went for it and sadly 2 bolts that surround that gear shift have halted me, this goes back to all the gear and no idea but transpires the gear I have is not man enough for the job, i.e I have a xmas cracker set of spanners and sockets! Typical me, I want to give it another go but not in a position to buy a meatier set of tools, I may bite the bullet and fire it into a garage local end of month , thanks for your tenacity with the help though....

Soooo....I finally got some sockets and went for it, I removed the bolts and collar and pop came the spring, looks like the white plastic over the dome has one of the prongs snapped, put it back together after shifting back into 2WD. YAY! soooo... now do I need to source a whole new transfer lever in order to have the plastic clip replaced did you say and/or locate from a breakers maybe? Thanks for all your help and it's what pushed me to do it myself....

Well done fella
You can now drive it again if you stick it back together, just don't put it into 4L.
I got another lever assembly from Thorntons, cost around £45.00, but then it was a doddle to drop straight back in.
You just have to take your time in lining it up while pushing against the spring.
