Winch bumper plate

#1 by McK , Thu Apr 24, 2014 7:29 pm

This weeks Bodge, I have had this on the list for a couple of months as a speacial design request. It's as close to the 4x4 innovations bumper as I could make out from the pictures the lad sent.
Title a little misleading as this one is not getting a winch plate.

You can see I had to buthcher my normal pre bent sections in order to get the angle he was after and keep it tight to the side light { no bars going on this one}

A couple of hours to finish it, cap the ends as requested and make the mount adjustable between standard and +2"

Probably but they take a lot of hours and steel, I also have to pay for some folding as its 3mm sheet as I don't have a hydraulic press brake. All that means they cost about 30% more than tube ones.

Not really mate, its 180 to buy and bend the sheet steel. I then have materials and 8hrs approx of fabricating for mounts, winch tray, and putting the bumper together its self. Plus the cost of gas, wire, electric, cutting disks, flapper disk. Most people don't appreciate all the hidden costs. You could build it yourself for half what I would take if you were happy to cut all sections flat and spend a long time welding and dressing.

Add in I would rather build my own projects and I couldn't/wouldn't do it for less than 400.

Change of plan this is now getting a winch plate just in case.

Gives some idea of the hidden structure required to fit heavy duty bumpers, all in 6mm plate.

Finished, I gave it a first black coat then remembered it was to stay in primer
Not to pretty from the back as I had to slice up my pre bent sections to get the look the fella was after. It is strong and funtional thou. Clearly dependant on body lift height you will need to cut access in the bumper top for winch and controls if you ever go down that road, I have left it closed as requested but proveded a fully functional winch mount should you ever change your mind.
Faitled slot cut to be hidden by number plate as discussed.
