Water pump poleaxed by the sounds of it, not circulating the water at low revs.. try a removing the thermostat first and see what difference it makes..

i remember something similar being mentioned on the forum and it was said to check water pump remove rad cap when cool and you should see the water being thrown
around. my water in rad does not move is that normal.

Have you got an air lock somewhere? Sounds like you do to me..let engine tick over..put heater on hot and full rev till temp gets high,i bet the heat starts coming through and the heater gets hot

hi daz no air lock, did what you are suggesting, i can drive to Birmingham and back 70 mph all day long and its fine even with our wobbly box on the back but as soon as it hits a hill
the needle hits the red. new head gasket, new rad, fan it v good, changed thermostat x2. cooling system flushed with heavy duty flush, new top and bott hoes.
rechecked timing, i have had enough of it know i do not wish to sell it like that, if i px it some one else will get the prob and dealer will wash there hands you know what there like. may be an Isuzu, or a pram. would like to keep it but getting to old for hassle. spent too much time under landys in odd places just would like an easy life
now with no hassel.

I know what you mean..been there for donkey's years fixing landies every weekend.the l200 never causes me any real issues to be honest so im grateful for that..i had same issues as you,new rad, still same, engine flushed to death, still same.in the end the stat cured it for me but..i was referring to vynilvisuals problems when i said air lock

More bad news after my neighbour reversed into the rear of my car this morning all was fine. Went on a 3 mile trip and its started getting hot trouble is now its staying hot even when moving and not cooling down as it did before. There was also steam escaping from somewhere on the driverd side of the engine at the back and 8" down but i couldnt see were from. So now its dented and broke

Well im not sure i dont think the waters circulating well wasnt before as when it got hot i checked the heater and it was cold. How would i get shot of an air lock?

Also just checked the history, its had an overheating problem 2 years ago stat was replaced then feb last year it had a new head, gaskets etc.. Done that was 10k miles ago.

The water pump can be a source of the problem, but I would get rid of the thermostat first and see what happens..

Im sure i will be corrected if wrong but....to test water pump..start the truck with rad cap off..rev engine.if water sprays out of top of rad then to my knowledge ( albeit very limited) the pump is working fine.

Hes not saying get rid of it..just remove it for a few days to eliminate it as a cause.my old stat seemed to open and close fine in the hot water test..but a new one solved my issues..has the rad and cooling system been flushed out thoroughly?

Ok tried to do the rad trick but i thought id check the hose from the expansion tank to the top of the rad as the rad wasnt full. Gave it a blow and it was blocked, another blow and it cleared. I then started topping up the rad and after 4litres thought it was taking alot. Looked underneath, water coming back out. Finally sourced it to a pipe right next to the heat shield....

So going to replace the pipe for a start and give it a full flush out. I dont think
That will fix the original problem but certainly going to stop it being hot all the time.

Flush the system through with a couple of sterident tablets after you replace hose then re drop water see if any gunk comes out
You could use dish washer tabs if you have them to hand
