rough running after timing belt snapped 08

#1 by Mick250 , Fri Jul 18, 2014 5:57 pm

Timing belt snapped and since its been fixt it just is not the same, for a start it keeps putting out black smoke out on acceleration (it didn't beforehand) and when sitting at 30mph it hicks on as if it is running out of fuel, and if you are siting at 70ish for 5minuits+ when you slow down for roundabouts when u go to pull away it has no power what so ever then there is a massive puff of black smoke then it takes off and runs good , thanks for any advice as I don't want to sell it

Either something hasn't been timed up, or you got valve damage.

Guy told me all valves had been replaced, on tick over and low revs it has got a slight noise witch I think sounds like a tippy valve, could be wrong might just be paranoid

Wouldn't need a whole set of valves, just the damaged uns.
Is the pump timing a tooth out?

He said not but he also put old timing belt back on that's how it snapped, I got the belt changed 4 month ago cut a long story short the belt snapped 3month after he changed it. When all came to all he had put the old belt back on (witch he tried to deny) I only know this because I bought the parts and it was a mitsuba belt I got. Andit was a genuine mitsubishi belt what cam back off

Sorry, but only a clown would re use a timing belt.
Its not worth the hassle when they snap, especially on a twin cam engine.
Sounds like you need find a new mechanic

Well I think he has done it on purpose hoping I wouldn't notice but I did, just so he can get the work, don't think the motor will ever be the same again it's crap to drive now where as it was mint before hand.
And I will Deffo be looking for new mechanic now lol

If the age of the belt is known, and its not that old you can reuse them but the formula for working out the tension is a pita. While its technically feasible if done properly on a not very old belt, it's a pointless endeavour - belts are cheap, and it saves someone the effort and expense of doing it again sooner.

I bought a brand new belt and full kit, but the guy who fitted it put the same belt back on that he took of, weather or not it was intentional or a genuine mistake I do not know. that belt had been on since 62,000 and it now has 112,000 on so the belt has done approx 50k
