2004 animal getting hot

#1 by Rolo99 ( Guest ) , Sun Nov 02, 2014 1:53 pm

Hi all,
I recently brought a 2004 animal, and im having problems with it getting hot
All seems fine whilst doing 55-60mph but when you slow down the gauge Creeps up
To just under the red,
I've changed the rad cap, temperature sensor and bled the system
But nothing seems to work. There are no head gasket signs as heater is really hot,
No contamination and no bubbling etc in the header.
One thing I noticed is that the complete bottom half of the radiator and the bottom hose
We're cold after a run, is that normal?
Also someone has blanked off the little breather that goes to the egr would that affect it?
Any suggestions would be grateful as I'm just about to give up on it.
Thanks
Barry

Would suggest rad needs replacing if its blocked? You've blanked the egr by the sound, thats good, rad cap changed, also good, water pump maybe a problem, but if it was me id flush the rad again, then replace that if its original

@Basil , didn't you run a kenlowe fan on yours ? could the viscous fan be causing this problem if it's not doing it's job at lower speeds ?

Ok thanks,
How would you go about flushing the rad?
Should the radiator be hot all over?
Thanks

Maybe but I dont recall seeing it v often at all. Nick sent me a13" leccy fan which we put on a manual switch, between the oil cooler and the main rad, worked a treat, and less than £25 all in
