VGT Solenoid Throttle/Boost valves

#1 by jpj2424 ( Guest ) , Wed May 13, 2015 9:37 pm

Hi. Recently bought a 55 plate L200 warrior with same old issue of power loss after 3,00 revs under load. Ive already ruled out many things then finally took it for a diagnostic. The error codes were 41 - Throttle valve solenoid & 49 - Overboost.

So before I started adjusting the max boost screw on the turbo I thought I would look at the solenoid valves up on the inlet manifold. I unplugged the elecrics from the orange solenoid then took it for a spin. The truck now pulled like a train after 3,000 revs. However, the same symptoms of power loss were now between 1,500 - 3,000 revs? Once I plugged it back in, all returned to usual with the power loss after 3,000?

So, does this mean that the orange solenoid is faulty and worth replacing? Many thanks in advance... jj

Ruled out: Vacuum hoses, fuel filter, egr valve blanked off, actuator, map sensor..

Hi 123hotchef! The resistance on both the orange and black solenoids are the same. 30.8
I just took the truck for a spin with the 2 inlet pressure sensors unplugged at separate times. The ones that are 1. at the top of the engine in the middle( MR299300) and 2. the one near the back by the bulkhead (MR577031 DENSO)
When No.1 was unplugged I got the same response as when I unplugged the orange solenoid (power not a prob after 3,000 anymore but between 1,500 - 3,000)
When No.2 was unplugged the power problem was there through all the range.

The fact that I can make it work as it should above 3,000 revs makes me think it cant be injector or pump probs, right?!

Hope that all made sense mate and is clear as mud...jj

er i dont think the sensor can be checked properly but the book says pin 2 to earth on the sensor plug

and the ecu is in the passenger footwell asuming u have a uk RH drive truck, pull the plastict pannel off and look up near glove box ur see it a couple of 10mm bolts to take it out but u should be able to check it in situe mate

Yep ...I'm in the Southwest too.....up in the NorthWest corner of Devon, not very far from Bude, krutly is Barnstaple and Wolfy Braunton. Don't know of any meets been organised round here for next month...think cheffy has that muddled with South Central. Ours tend to mainly be pub meets though, but as krutly is the area rep , best chat to him about anything else.....As goes upgrading with Admin, I know she has been very very busy lately, so apologies for the delay.......

Yeh south central sorry. I don't know if contact cleaner will help.it is a sealed unit with a vac hose connected well boost pipe technically. U can try but I think u will only clean the external contacts they might have corroded but the plug has a rubber seal around it to prevent water ingress
