L200 Animal Engine Fault

#1 by Jimbo ( Guest ) , Wed Jan 07, 2015 10:13 pm

Hello all, I am new to the forum and was wondering if anyone could offer some advice with an erratic fault that I am experiencing with my 2007 L200?
When the car is idling in neutral the RPM is rock steady at just under 1000 RPM but when pulling away in 1st gear (and going up through the gears) with the RPM steadily increasing to 2000 - 2500 RPM all hell breaks loose and the rev counter needle briefly drops down to below 1000 RPM then back up to 2000 - 2500 RPM, it does this repeatedly then the engine stalls. The vehicle experiences an aggressive loss of power during the change in RPM and there appears to be a clicking noise from somewhere as of yet I have untraced. On some occasions the engine management light has came on and resets when restarting the engine. I have had the car in at a garage and they are unable to locate any fault with the car. On one ocasion I took the car back as the engine management light stayed on and the garage identified the fault as high accelaration although I think this is a red herring as sometimes the engine management light does not come on at all.
If anyone can offer any advice on this then it would be greatly appreciated!
Many Thanks

Jim

Has anything been done to your truck recently that could cause a vac hose to come off?

Have you had oil filter or fuel pump changed recently?basically look all over for any small rubber hose and check that both ends are still connected.the clicking noise will need to be sourced by having someone listing while you start her up to find the culprit and that may solve the problem .If you find the part post its number on here and we will know what it is ,it may depending on what part may just need a spray with wd40 Also check your air filter is reasonably clean.
Did the garage put a fault code reader on it an find an historical fault? if so can you give us the number.
