changing engine

#1 by tom , Thu Feb 26, 2015 9:24 pm

hi I have a l200 51 plate with engine problems! have been trying to figure it out for a while and I think the time has now come to give up and change the engine problem being I don't have a lot of funds,
questions are: what kind of engine can I replace this with does it have to be 2.5 4d56
will I have to change ECU etc
does anyone know of a cheap one
reagrds Tom

hi from cornwall (truro) I posted on here a couple of months back the engine wouldn't rev upto 1000 rpm, think I have tried nearly every thing sent ECU away came back fine, changed both boost and barometric sensors, replaced all vac hoses (there is suction) when I plug in it will always come up with either boost senser, vgr, or ECU internal fault.the engine had been changed before I had it and it has had a new head, it is FBW!

yes engine light will come on if it revs passed 1000 rpm, if I switch off theres a click sound after 4 or 5 seconds turn back on the light has gone until its revved again

another thing to replace before getting another engine would be the crank position sensor. I'm happy for someone to point out if I'm wrong (as I'm always happy to learn) but I think the crank sensor controls (in some way that I dont understand) the fuel pump.
