Twin Headlights fitted

#1 by Hornstar , Tue Mar 10, 2015 9:54 pm

Ok so, I know people have seen twin light conversions before, but thought I'd share my experience.

I picked up the lights from a L200 breakers yard in Twickenham. I drove about a mile away and found a nice sunny un busy side road.

Armed with a 10mm spanner & socket I set about removing the lights.

Next I realised the lights would not come out with the front grill in place, so I saw the two Philips screws holding the top of the grill in place. These were solid and so the only option was to drill them off.

With this done, the grill still seemed to be attached & about twenty minutes of head scratching ended in me finding a long thin screwdriver which I found if you pushed down on the tag on each of the plastic stems that attached the grill to the front of the truck, the grill would release & was now off!

After releasing a few 10mm bolts the light on the drivers side popped out, I realeased the lamp/bulb & then released the wire going to the headlight adjuster motor. The passenger side light would only come out after undoing the water washer bottle & pulling it upwards, it was all still attached with pipes & wires, this then gave me access to the last 10mm bolt which once undone let the whole light pop forward.

Next was just a simple task of putting the new lights into place, I started with the Drivers side, which was proper easy and no problems. I had to find a couple of nuts to fit on the back of the light cluster, but it was not a problem.

The passenger side was ok until I noticed the washer bottle water pump slightly fouls on the headlight adjuster motor, this was easily remedied by only bolting the bottle up with one bolt instead of two.

With all this done, it was now time to fit everything back.

I am well chuffed with the new look! So much nicer me thinks.

As it happens.....yes, in between posting and now, I just slipped out for a cheeky test run and I must add it was an apprehensive one, as I have heard people say the light output is not the same.

HOWEVER.... I loves them!! Plenty bright enough! Very crisp light pattern & on high beam, it was mad bright, more kinda central mass of light of concentrated light.

They were a lot of money, but in my book, it was worth every pennie!!!

Look at it as an investment.....if you ever sell the truck then sell the lights seperately and get your money back....

Just to let you know if factory fitted or kit bought from new it is supplied with a spacer for the washer bottle.
If I find the one that came off mine I will post the size.
