Nothing to do with me but seen this on ebay, 80 channel rig magmount and springer,
could be a bargain for someone if it goes around its maiden bid

Depends how you look at it not having paypal will probably limit the number of bids thus keeping the price down, should be okay though he has 100% feedback so should be okay, worth double checking incase he forgot to put paypal on

Am is stone dead in the Uk but you'll hear a lot of mainland Europe, especially the Italians on Am.
I will soon be selling a couple of Multimode radio's, or side banders as they are also known, Fm, Am and Ssb, 240+ channels, including the Uk and Eu cb bands, They're probably aimed at folk with a bit more knowledge in Cb or ham radio as opposed to a newbie, if anyone is interested pm me

A couple of questions,
Does a cb that has ssb mean you can talk to people around the world, from your truck with just a springer antenna?
And do you need a licence to have a ssb cb radio?
I'm looking at getting a cb for my truck, I've seen a few good starter packs, from 4x4cb, most of them are 80 channel rigs, but I would think about getting one with ssb if that meant I could speak internationally

Without getting into the science of it, essentially you can get international contacts with a basic Fm cb as well, its all down to the phenomenon they call skip, solar reflection and the weather conditions, and how high up you are, and how much power your radio is transmitting, however you stand a far better chance of hearing a foreign station on ssb as the main calling channel 27.555 is in a block of frequencies between the EU and Uk cb bands
I regularly speak to mainland europe whilst driving around, i have also spoke to north an south America from the truck.
international radio has its own terminology and codes to bypass the language difficulties
here is a wee clip of some belfast boys talking on ssb to stateside USA which will give you a flavour

or England into Jamaica

The legality of SSB is a another story, at present if you are not a licenced radio ham /amateur then it is against the law to use ssb, and even hams are not permitted to use ssb on the cb band, this law has always been ignored and in the past 10 years has been very very rarely enforced, especially with the emergency services now on digital encrypted radios far away from cb land you are extremely unlikely to cause any grief in a vehicle, its more a problem in home bassed set ups interfering with tellies but even that has all but disappeared with the migration to digital tv, the current law is now obsolete and there are moves a foot to legalise ssb and it and its only a matter of time, however it worries me not a jot
Personally i wouldnt spend anymore than about 60 to 70 quid for a 80 channel cb and an antenna there are loads on ebay. The springer is a popular antenna for off roading due to their rugged flexibility but they are not the best for distance
