Fuel Pump adjustment

#1 by handyandyrta , Fri May 29, 2015 9:19 am

I am wanting to tinker wit fuel pump on my 03 L200, but cannot find any info on adjusting it. Can anyone help with this matter? Pics and description of what to look for and where would be most helpful.

Thanks

Wanting to adjust the amount of fuel in.

I have serious lack of power pulling up hill, the power seems to die quite quickly when put under load. I have adjusted the turbo already to get the boost kicking in at 2500rpm but I think it needs some more go go juice to help.

Not sure what that pfbw means? New to L200 ownership so learning things as I go.

If it's an fbw diesel pump all adjustment is done by the ecu and there is not a lot you can do with it , there is a tuning box but that's in a different thread and has its lovers and haters . The best way to set the turbo up is with a boost gauge , I did mine first time round to run at 12 psi at full throttle , what that also showed was the turbo was playing up causing random boost readings high and low pressure readings ( a load of cleaner in the diesel tank helped ) I will stand corrected on the next bit if wrong , over 14 psi boost on standard ecu can cause the ecu to detect over boost from the turbo and reduce fuel/ power to protect the engine hence the sudden power drop off on full throttle at about 2500 rpm , the eml light does not always come on with this happening.
Fbw- fly by wire , no throttle cable
Ecu- engine control unit , the brains of the operation
Eml- engine management light , little orange light on the dash with an engine symbol that lights up when there is a problem

If it's got the old type cable pump there is ways to tweak it but I don't know much on them

Thanks for that, I should have known fbw etc. Aye it is fbw there is no throttle cable, so looks like it might be best to do some routine maintainance (diesel treatment etc) and see what results that brings. . . . . . . . While I'm at it, might as well remove EGR as well.

i dont know it in PSI but it has to be overboosting for more than 10 seconds I think and it is 0.8bar i think too

As above. Any adjustments you try and make the ECU will simply adjust back to base settings to compensate. If you want more performance you need a different vehicle.

Had the same problem with my 02. found the pump timing was slightly out. Loosened of the bolts holding the pump and rotate the top of the pump towards the engine. Best to mark it first incase you don't like the result but a small rotation turned my underpowered lump into a pleasure to drive.

That's an interesting suggestion, might well be worth trying.

I appreciate that the ECU will compensate for some adjustments and I'm not looking for performance gains as such, only looking to claw back some of the torque that the 2.5l diesel turbo should have.
