#1 by Woody , Wed Aug 19, 2015 11:03 am

Tubular front end front and rear winches at least 37's, locking front, rear & centre diff. Salisbury axles, strengthened half shafts and a V8 what more could a man want?!?!?!?!?!!

Step 1 - source a V8 Disco =D

I'm thinking just the stock V8 Disco with a transfer box swap and a tune.........

Here's one! 100quid, needs a new floor, but I am guessing that ain't gonna phase you?

And here's another one already done, save all the hard slog, time & money? (Not the same though when your building it from scratch!)

Not bad, not bad at all. However my plan is a little more odd..... Keeping all the interior comforts, so parts of mine will be redoing all the door seals and ensuring the interior is still more than comfortable for long journeys.....

Pah - there's not that much difference in the MPG between the V8 and the 300tdi 20 vs 25......

However i may of had a change in tact - currently looking at a deal on a 4L RRC....... thanks to @Antonio

I still fancy the idea of putting a single cab L200 onto my chassis...

I like your thinking Woody, I keep umming and arrring about all sorts - still waiting to hear back about this RRC V8. If not i'm very tempted to challenge the Red beast i have now - It's the most reliable truck i've owned. Laughs at water. is pretty water tight. has a few mods on already. only downside is the lack of power. However i know that the P gasket is leaking - got a new one ready to go on - spotted a full exhaust system too for like £80 so think that's the first plan. if this has ample power then it'll be the same plan as above but with a 300tdi instead of the V8......

I thought about the fuel pump and Turbo tweak - but mine is so reliable with 194k on the clock i don't think i want too.... It's like the radiator - it's battered to hell - half the Fins are missing never mind damaged - but i remember the last time i bled a Disco system - what a ball ache!!!

After this weekend I still think the disco is more reliable than an L200...

Me too!!! :') if it was an L200 Diff that would of gone it'd of been a recovery truck - all we needed was a ride and 3 hours - sorted ;)

Just flogged a 3.9 V8 disco, and I think your 20mpg on 37's with I assume a defender transfer box is extremely optimistic, with 20 years of running they will barely do that in standard trim, my V8 90 does an average combined 13mpg on 33's (10 mpg urban and 15mpg motorway) albeit EFI is a little better, but EFI is not great in a mud plugger, if you plan on going near water
300tdi is defo the best solution for an out and out mud plugger, and the RRC is far cooler than a Disco 1, if I was getting rid of mine it would be for a RRC V8 that I would bobtail and cage...........but it's a dream for the mo

Good luck and I look forward to the build thread

If you really want these kinda vehicles then fuel economy should not be an issue.I ran american V8's for years,no interest for me about what it does to the gallon, its all about the vehicle.

I bought mine in the firm knowledge that it was a greedy barsteward, and I cared not a jot as it was the weekend hog, but I must admit I'm feeling the pain of having had to run it as a daily for the past 6 months and it's stopped me from going to some of the meets, Kirkton would have been the best part of £400 return in petrol

Thankfully the Jimny should be rolling in the next couple of weeks and I can take two thirds off the monthly fuel bill, and I can also tow the 90 to meets
