Hi Guys,
I am considering buying a L200. I found a car that looks good, but the owner has been honest and told me it has a fault. He has owned the car from new (10 years) and since 2013 the engine warning light has come on when you load the engine heavily (like towing up a hill). Since it hasn't bothered him as its so intermitant, he has done nothing about it. Other then ask a turbo specialist and ask Mitsi main dealer. Both guessed the turbo was probably over loaded (as its knackered) and hence the sensor has cut power. The problem go´s away as soon as car turned off. The vehicle is a good price and the owner has been honest. Do people think the problem will be solved if I change the turbo? I am wondering if its worth taking a chance? My alternative is waiting and buying an older Hilux, but that means getting vehicle twice as old as there reliability means they are twice the price here in Norway:-/ Looking forward to here peoples thoughts, I definately dont need the headache of problem vehicle but they do look like great trucks for the money. Thanks Jim
Hi Jim, The fault sounds like overboost to me if the price was right I would not have any hesitation in purchasing it. It may be just a case of adjusting the turbo. you don't say what year or model L200 it is I am guessing it is 2002 or newer and a fbw truck, please joing the site there is lots of info about this problem and it I free. Hi Lee, I have joined the site I am just waiting for approval. The truck is a 2007 model (registered in late 2006) 2.5 DID double cab. The owner has one from new and lived with the fault since 2013. Thanks for any help. I do want to buy it, I just want to make sure I dont have a serious problem, as I do plan yto use to for towing. Thanks J
