Does the 12v feed need to live through cranking, or are we just looking for a live when the engine is running ?

Yeah live when engine is running will do perfectly. It's purely the trigger for the veg relay. But the veg won't come on until engine is warm so cranking is to my mind irrelevant. Just need a live 12 to supply the relay when running. And preferably closer than the ignition barrel

Fyi my veg relay is inside left hand wing next to relay box.

Alternator output wire runs right past the battery mate, goes live when the engine is running....

A wire, running from the alternator round under the battery to the dash....

White / Black or Yellow / Black springs to mind, without looking, runs in the loom that crosses the front of the upper timing cover.

if you cut the wire you will find copper threads inside

I knew that was coming But seriously thanks.Helps a lot and is the obvious choice over the ignition.
