ARB Winch bumper

#1 by Greigboy , Tue May 29, 2012 8:06 pm

You gotta love Ebay, I spotted an ARB winch bumper not far from me, it was originally off a Hilux but it thought I'd have a butchers as it was nearby and looks almost identical to hellboy's ARB winch bumper
Took my measuring tape and the dimensions are almost identical to the l200 and chassis position is pretty close, it will require a little fabrication to get it to line up with my chassis mounts but nothing too terrible.

It could be doing with a shot blast and paint or powder coating, my mate knows someone who refurbs wheels so hopefully that's in hand

Best part of all it was only £80

What do you think?

Cheers guys, yes it was cheap as chips but lots of elbow grease required, and a couple bits of chequer plate to jazz it up a bit.

I'm not going to fit it though until I've got a winch.

I've not even looked at how the l200 bumper is mounted, I'm hoping it will be simple to get off, I hate jap bodywork bolts always bloody snap, is it much of a job?

Had mine off once or twice......... I'll leave it open for the terrible twits to get stuck in........ some bolts down from the grill ( four I think), a couple in the front of the wheel arch ( four more ). As yours is a later one, it could be in 3 sections as the changd around the 2003 mark to a 3 piece bumper.

I sold mine for £400. They are around £700-800 new,

ARB bumpers are very heavy, 2 man job to lift onto truck. Pretty solid but they do bend,

I wouldn't advise it just incase its a pig to mod, I was willing to chance it for 80 quid, it's originally intended for a gen2 Hilux but has had a couple of bits welded to it in order that it would fit a gen3 Hilux, so I can see a fair bit of cutting and welding involved.
I just spoke to john (Hellboy) who has an l200 ARB so the plan would be to make templates from his, if it's going to take too much to get it to fit I'll just leave it as is and flog it, I'm sure I'll get my money back

Too right mate they weigh a ton, ive seen one bend at the clog, the side bracing on them is quite thin considering the stress they are under, I intend to use a heavier gauge steel to try and prevent it flexing.

I know my cousin had a winch in his workshop from a recovery wagon, he offered me it a while ago, don't know if it's up to much I'm sure it needs a rope

It was allegedly a warn winch that was on it before, but ive spent too much on her the last couple of months so if the freebie winch don't work out it will have to wait a while

Apart from two snapped bolts very easy to come off, for some reason it was a real bastard to get back on... It just wouldn't line up.

Good find though.

I'll keep it in mind Greg, I don't think it would be difficult to treble my money on it, ive already had an email offering me £200 for it.

TBH I'm run off my feet at the moment renovating the house and i start a secondment to the Olympics on Tuesday so god knows when I'll get a chance to have a propper look
