Hi all. I have an unusual one for you. My 2006 l200 2.5l DID auto is bellowing out black smoke on light and hard acceleration. On really hard acceleration it's not so bad. But here's where it gets strange. After a while, if the revs get high enough it can stop, stays OK for the rest of the journey, but if the engine is turned off (even if just for a minute) it starts smoking again. Can also make it stop by driving a while, turning off the engine and if I start it at just the right time (when dash light's go off) it stops again.
When it's smoking it doesn't drive particularly well and gears seem to change up a bit slower.
I have changed map sensor, Maf sensor, coolant temp sensor, and blanked egr. Cleaned out inlet manifold. Changed oil, oil filter, fuel filter.
Had a mobile mechanic take a look and all readings are OK.
I'm stumped! Any sugestions?
it may not be the case here but some early newshape autos (like yours) had issues with the auto box loom rubbing on the chassis and causing various faults
Have a good look at all the loom underneath and check that isn't the cause

Still no joy... cannot find any problems with the wirina
Anybody have any suggestions?
I'd be tempted to check all air pipes are intact and not collapsing.. Black smoke would indicate an incorrect fuel/air mix

What exactly did the mobile mechanic do then?

Thanks...and sorry for the delay in replying. have checked the pipes to the best of my knowledge. The mobile mechanic didn't do a lot to be honest! Just plugged it in and said no fault codes and all the sensors etc are reading as they should so couldn't see the fault. Suggested a terraclean but don't see how it could be any sooted up pipes if it stops as described.
We figure it must be a sensor somewhere but can fathom what!
