Gearbox change

#1 by k.jeff , Sun Nov 12, 2017 12:37 am

New to this forum, never used one before .can anyone tell me if I can replace my gearbox V5MB1JNE super select with five switches on transfer box and five multi plugs on transfer box 2006 warrior/ with a 2015 gearbox V5MB1JPDK super select box with five switches on transfer box and six multi lugs on transfer box?? I know the later box hasn't got a 1st position switch on side of gearbox itself in front of reverse switch but not worried about that. The five switches on the transfer box appear to be in the same positions, is it just the case of configuring wiring to match original box and doing away with extra multi plug?? Just wondering if anyone has done this or if it's possible? Been trying to find out for two weeks hope some one can help!

Don't think anyones ever done it before , in fact don't think anyones needed to! I think you'd need to find the wiring diagrams for both boxes and see what goes where , but you'll also need to check stud and bellhousing positioning too , and all dimensions.

What are the benefits of fitting a 2015 box in a 2006 truck (unless its a freebie)
Just get the correct box, got be plenty about, in breakers.
I could see a benefit of fitting a 2016> box as they are 6 speed, but come from a different engine than the B40.

there's a chap on here having issues getting a 2014 barbarian gearbox to work in a 2011 truck so seriously doubt that a 2015 will drop straight in to a 2006
your 2006 isn't an auto is it ?

My box has only done 64k and got the 3rd/4th syncro hub issue which is apparently very common! So wouldn't fit a second hand box unless low mileage . The 2015 box I'm looking to fit has only done 10k that's why I was looking to fit the later gearbox. You can get cheap recon boxes! But they are cheap for a reason. A good quality box from Ivor searle is around £1500 so a low mileage later box seems like a good option to me. I know I can swap transfer boxes because the main gearbox is the same V5MB1/ just wondered if anyone had any info on swapping the complete unit.
