Sounds good! You going to uprate anything else in the process? I guess it should take 134HP without too much additional stress.

Shouldn't need it for an extra 20 brake, the brakes on mine are the same as the animal which has this module fitted as standard, I've never chipped an oil burner but have had loads of petrols done in the past, it's nothing next to my old 420 brake Cossie.
But it's a different world, the were chipped for flat out performance and to he'll with the mpg, this is just to try and increase the mpg and have a little more torque for towing or off roading, day to day I doubt I'll notice any difference

I'm going to be doing similar to mine once I've got past my air ingress issue. Only being a cable throttle it can't be chipped or mapped. Instead you have to tune up the pump and waste gate yourself. But overall the results are similar to a map from what I'm finding out. Over on Pocuk it's common place to do this. Adds around 20-25 bhp, so in the region of a fbw map.
Personally I wouldn't be afraid to do what you're doing with a genuine chip. I think it really comes down to how well the engine is looked after and how it's driven. An extra 20odd bhp doesn't mean it should be driven like a boy racer.
Have you got an EGT gauge GB? That's the only thing I would be mindful of.

I have had a few chips fitted to mine over the years (used to buy and sell them and would check they worked ok on my truck first) I would only ever have it fitted for a few days before re-selling them, used to make a big difference in the trucks performance BUT I used to think it made the engine run hotter, it never showed on the temp gauge but I used to think I could smell/feel the heat more from the engine after a run

I've not got an EGT gauge but I've got a second dash pod from a shogun sport and i plan to run both pods but replace the shogun volt meter with a boost gauge, the shoggy pod has a temp gauge in the middle of the digital compass and I was going to use that as my outside temp gauge and replace the l200 one with an EGT gauge, tbh it stands to reason that it will run a little hotter but probably not enough to move the needle on the temp gauge, but it should be within tolerances as its a factory chip.

Almost certain to run hotter. And no it will never show on the coolant gauge. The problem with tuning up the 2.5 is the safe EGT level. Anything over 700 will cook your gasket slowly. You'll never get a big grand over heating moment. The coolant gauge will never show anything but normal running. Everything will seem fine until one day you see the dreaded bubbles and mixed oil and water. Sustained running at over 700 will do this.
Fit a plug and play EGT gauge though and you can drive accordingly. Once you've had it for a month or so you will instinctively know where and when it will run hot and how to drive without needing to constantly look at the gauge. It's a fascinating insight into how an engine works, really it is.
I've done exhaustive research on tuning diesels and the one thing that comes up all the time is that changing a diesels performance, even by a little, without an EGT gauge on board is just about the stupidest thing you will ever do. No offence.
My exhaust got me a decent temp drop too. Well worth it for that alone as you will run hotter.

Doing my regular checks today and noticed the air con belt has vanished, tensioner appears okay and spinning freely, so it must just have been its time to go, might as well change the others while I'm in.
Gonnae do the oil and fuel filters and get the power upgrade fitted as well, should have bloody done it in the better weather

Well, I fitted the power upgrade today, and had a bit of driving to do tonight which gave it a mix of town and motorway driving.
I noticed the difference almost as soon as it fired up, the idle seemed much smoother, throttle much sharper, obvious increase in power, most noticeable by not having to drop gears on inclines, where I would have before, and of course there is more beans when you need it with the throttle being much more responsive, it's still no EVO and I didn't buy it to toe the arse out of it but it's certainly far comfier and I thought it was quieter? Certainly more like driving a Shogun than an L200
Now for the odd ball symptom, my truck has always ran without the temp gauge dead bang in the middle, now you would think after mapping it would run slightly warmer with the increase in air and fuel. Well the temp gauge now sits just under half so it appears to be running cooler????
I know these gauges are not precision instruments but there is a definite change from pre upgrade
Still very early days but initial signs are positive

So Greig, just to get an idea, what marks out of ten would you give your truck for acceleration before and after the chip being fitted? Now you've had it on there would you still drive it without the chip or not? As the going rate is a couple of hundred quid , is it worth it? Interesting to see if anyone has an answer as to why the temp might be lower as if this is the case then maybe they should be fitted for this reason alone ?

It makes no sense for the temp to be lower but that's what the gauge shows.
It's still no Porsche but the throttle is much sharper and it is a bit swifter in the take off, it feels torquier as opposed to standard which is what it's supposed to be.
It's still early days, but at present I'm happy with it and am happy to keep it on

GB, if the engine is now 'more efficient' then you'll have lower temps, as not as much work to get the same or better results from the engine. More power from less revs must end up with lower temp.. as the cooling system with still be doing the same amount of work...

Yeah I'm pleased, its like when I got rid of my 4 cyl 316i and got a 6 cyl 320i more power, smoother and used the same or less fuel, using far less effort to do the same thing, difference between a wee engine working its arse off and a big engine smoking a hamlet

I also replaced all of the auxiliary belts with nice new Gates jobbies, they are a pain in the @rse to do, I managed to fish the old air con belt out from the sump guard and it was well shredded, it did look as if it had been rubbing something though as there was a groove cut into it at one edge, new belt seems to be running true and not catching anything, but I'll keep an eye on it.

Right, update on the power upgrade, I've ran a few tank fulls since fitting it now and it is definitely more efficient I'm averaging around 20 to 30 more miles to a tank than I was previously, not earth shattering savings or the most scientific testing but its certainly no worse than it was pre upgrade.
It's strange how you get used to it though, you don't even notice the wee bolt extra oomph now, I remember thinking the same on my Mtec Beemer after a remap, until you jump into an un modded one and you notice straight away

Fitted a roof rack last week but its been a bit of a flop as its got a horrendous vibration at between 55 and 65, so I took it off today and done a bit of re engineering of the factory mounts and reinforced them with a couple of rivets and some foam tape, didn't get a chance to test it out but hopefully its done the trick, as I'm wanting to get Some roof spots on it.
Of the weathers good tomorrow then I'm going to get the back end up in the air and get the back chassis wire brushed, ku-rusted, hamerited and waxoiled.
