Hey all. Firstly have to admit im not a fan of the teardrop cab on the new shape and the front end is a little soft. But raj has a perfect example of how much potential those trucks have. I was thinking of upgrading to an 07 hilux but looking around a can get an 07 l200 for 2k less and with less miles on the clock. If i did go down this road there are 2 things i need ti know... 1# is the space in the rear seats substantially bigger than the classic?? And 2# is the engine the same? The first being most important as even my kids are getting fed up struggling for leg room in the back!! My 58 plate rodeo had great legroom and the hilux is quite generous too!! Any info appreciated. Cheers all

I had a 2005 classic warrior before, it was a great truck but awful to drive and gutless when towing.
I now have a 56 plate warrior, only had it a week, the cab is loads bigger, more leg room in the rear, my step dad is 6ft 2 he has no probs with it.
The engines now are far better being 134bhp standard, pulls loads better.
Im sure someone will be along soon with their views.
Nick.

There is more space in the back seats, the engine is far better both in performance and MPG and reliability, steering and suspension are much better and you have the advantage of using 4 wheel drive permanently anywhere if you wish.Service intervals are longer (07 is every 12.5k). Electrics are complex and expensive like all modern engines but they are OBD2 compliant so you can read the codes yourself
easily and there are plenty of sensors to point you in the right direction to diagnosis which saves time and money. Serviced regularly they are a vastly improved truck.
purely a personal opinion , others will differ, best thing to do is get a test drive first
2006 'new shape' from new 66000 miles, no problems, just serviced every 12k miles.

Tons of space in them. I bought mine off a guy who is 6ft five and he was comfortable in the back while I was doing the test drive.
More space in the back than my old 5 series, too.
I looked at Hiluxes too and you're right; you get the same spec L200 for £2-3k less.

Lez , do you think that with the majority of membership being Classic owners that the Pram owners should be moved into a wee sub section ? We could rename the site ( Classic L200 forum). ;o)

5 years and yours will all be buckets of rust, you can all then wake up and smell the coffee.
Prams are the future learn to live with it, its time to move on. I was like you lot 3 yrs ago!

As an engineering accomplishment the pram is a better truck. Don't tell any one I said that though. Better mpg, better off road, bigger inside and a more powerful more reliable engine. It takes a lot of money to get a classic to be on a par with a pram. Major downside of a pram in terms of ones that matter, you can't run veg. But you do have better mpg anyway. But yes, they are still ugly as sin.
FYI, I was forced to write this, at gun point. Honest.

Will post again in 5 years and we can compare my truck and your ....! I suppose it depends on what you want. Personally if I wanted a truck to look nice on the road I'd have bought a hi lux intimidator, I chose the classic for what it is and what can be done with it overall costing against the newer version and for me personally it was in my budget. Anyone got a pic if that Orange one from Thailand or wherever it is? Tried to find it but can't. It's by far the best looking pram ever!! Long long time before the doom if the classic though. I would like to avoid getting one if I can. But if I do, I agree I has to be near Mad Max level modified.

I have had a 2005 classic Warrior and now a 56 plate new shape Warrior, no comparison. Chalk and Cheese, the classic is like driving a 30yr old van, the new shape is far more refined.
Classic is slow and has the turing circle of the QE2, crap with a car transporter trail loaded on it, but looks the part.
Pram runs and pulls far better, dont look as good i will admit, far faster, better MPG, turns better, has a better 4x4 system.

Only the new Ranger/BT50 comes close for room in the back. And, you can do a U-turn in less space than the Queen Mary.

TBH i wanted to buy a hilux but when i went to the toyota showroom they were arrogant bastards who didint want to give me the time of day even though i was ready to buy one!!!!! I went to mitsubishi and they actually were interested and took me for a test drive, i went home as i wasnt toooo sure about the shape, did some research on the modifying potential and went back and bought it!!!! And iv never looked back and i have had hilux drivers ask me where i got my stuff from as they want to make theirs look more manly!!!! I wouldnt have bought mine if i wasnt going to modify it. The biggest difference is the wheels once u change those the truck gets completely transformed
Before
After wheels
