This morning i noticed that my speedo was not working. The needle doesn't rise, unless i press the brake pedal - then it rises to the current speed but then drops to 0 again. What can cause this, and i hope it's any easy (at home) fix?

Manual. Where are the sensors/wires - is it something i can look at or best to take it to the garage?

If anyone knows where the sensor is located, i've bought a new one off ebay for just over £20 and would like to try fitting it, but need to know where to look! Pictures for a simpleton like me would be great

Hey @PorkPie . Maybe this will help - it's for the KB4T - not sure if that's what your's is, cos I'm old school too (don't think we have a cable though cheffie - do we?) You can use the site to track down your exact model if it's different from the link.

so is there a separate sensor in the box for the ECU to pick up the vehicle speed or is that run off the cable as well - sorry Porkpie - slight hijack going on here.

the only other place would be clocks but the clocks from pfbw are the same so it has to be pump

My Speedo did exactly th3 same as this .
Had it booked in to have it looked at as couldn't figure it out .
In the mean time I took it to a jet wash to give it a clean and sprayed all the hubs at the same time to clean all the abs sensors etc , and hey Presto it was working again . 2 years later and still going strong .
Try jet washing the inside of your hubs and discs etc

Do the wires from the speedometer go behind the stereo cavity? As the only thing i may have done is dislodged a wire whilst trying to jam the new stereo in the back of the cavity.
