In on o/s obviously, through bulkhead then across bulkhead behind cylinder head, then down n/s to finish at g/box. Can stop working easily if disturbed or has a tight arc to it.

I just had my speedo sensor replaced today! The mechanic fitted it, and interestingly, after the sensor was replaced, several ABS and CAN communcation errors that couldn't be cleared were able to be cleared. I have no idea why it stopped working, but went hand-in-hand with lots of other problems (fuel tank leak causing repeated limp mode, air bag light coming on). I got the sensor from ebay for about twenty or thirty quid.

It sounds like it. When the fuel rail sensor or suction control valve is replaced both an SQL (small quantity learning) and a "supply pump correction" should be carried out. The ECU takes readings from the scv and the fuel rail sensor and uses them to adjust the fuel injection to the correct values. The sensors are extremely tight tolerance and two sensors aren't alike so they have to be recoded when you replace them as two sensors will give two different readings for the same pressure.
