Hi Folks,

Taking the plunge and buying my first pickup, after looking for a long time ive decided to go for a 2015 2.5 barbarian Double Cab,

Being Totally New to Trucks AND Diesals (my last car was a 94 Celica GT4) what do i need to look out for specifically with this model? im off to view a few at the weekend and take for a test drive but would like to know if there are any known/obvius issues i should be looking for. where there any factory recalls? or know wear and tear issues i should keep my eyes open for?

thanks in advance

Scott

What sort of mileage do you do each week?
And on what sort of roads will you be driving?
As 2015 models have a DPF fitted

Thanks for the reply Nick,

honestly i will not be doing many miles to start off with, (i know thats not ideal for a a derv) i commute about 25 miles a day. BUT this will change in a couple of years as i will be taking the pickup over to Kenya with me when i emigrate.

roads will mainly be A/B roads, wont be doing much if any off road till i get out to Kenya

ive already looked into DPF delete - is that something youd recommend as im doing such short trips?

thanks for your time

as im totally new to diesals i decided to do a bit of googling about dpf removal, how i understand is thats basically the same as a CAT - remove it and it will fail MOT? or is there a way around it? or is it not even an issue just make sure its gets a good run out every couple of weeks to clear the soot? thanks,

MOT laws changed last month here in the UK, and have become very strict for Diesels.
DPF delete involves gutting the DPF and welding it back together, but must be done to a very high standard, if an MOT tester sees tampering it will be a fail.
Then the truck needs its ECU a flash to forget the DPF, a switched on MOT tester may spot this as the DPF warning light should come on when the key is first turned.
Can cost £250 - £500 depending on who does the work.

thanks Nick,

is it worth it in your opinion? or just better to keep on top of the servicing/cleaning? do you think i would have issues due to the low milage i will be doing?

Any other issues i should keep my eyes peeled for? do they rot in any particular areas?

thanks,

I only did 70 miles a week, and had DPF issues.
It was putting Diesel in the engine oil, there are a few threads about this on the forum.
This is why i sold mine after 9 months

Usual Head gasket, but that can happen to any L200 at any time it's luck of the draw.
4x4 is fab as it's Super Select so means it can run anytime anywhere is 4H.
Cam belt etc due at 62,500 or 5 years whichever soonest.
