Towing a trailer

#1 by yasser , Fri Sep 07, 2018 11:22 pm

Hi, i have recently bought a series 5 Barbarian nearly new (2017). The Tow bar had never been used and i think that it was fitted by after it was first registered. The 13 pin socket was incorrectly fitted so would not light up a trailer board but this has been fixed and now works. My questions are, should there be any indication in the cab that a trailer is attached to the vehicle, should the trailer be connected to the alarm (i.e. set off alarm if electrics unplugged) and finally, if not fitted on the vehicle build at factory does any later fitment have to be coded in to the vehicle to get Trailer stability assist.

I had a 2013 Barbarian with a Tow bar fitted as standard by Mitzi.
There was no warning buzzer fitted in the cab, Mine came with a 13 plug socket on the vehicle.
So i used a 13 pin to 7 pin connector about £6.
I wouldn't of thought the wiring from the tow socket plug was linked to the alarm, but i never tested mine.

I thought there was a small trailer sign on dash when connected or is it just on my disco? thought I had one on the warrior.

did have warrior, but crossed over to disco 2.
Thought I could see light at the end of the tunnel, but it was somebody with a torch bringing more work!

The K74's have a light by your right knee that flashes green when indicating and have a trailer , no buzzer though. Thought that there was supposed to be a visible or audible notification of indicators if you had a light board plugged in? Or did I imagine that? Lol

No factory fitted light on a K74 or a Pram, if you have a wee light on the dash its wired to an uprated relay that usually comes with the towbar kit.

My series 4 has an aftermarket buzzer crammed in beside the rear lights and I can only hear it if I open the window. Put on your hazards and walk round the truck to see if you can hear it.
