Brake Change

#1 by Deleted User , Sat Nov 19, 2011 8:21 pm

So i finally got to change the brakes on my L200 Thanks brian for answering my call and nic for the info via PM...
BUT IT WAS A NIGHTMARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Started off easy took off wheels, but that was it...Couldnt get the discs off as they were pretty much welded on, couldnt get the callipers off as they seemed like they were welded on as well!!!!!!! so had to use a hammer and a make shift breaker bar(my shape does not have the 2 holes to put a bolt in to push the brakes disks off )

I will do a detailed how to in a bit but for now i just wanted to rant and put some pics up

how did you manage to get the disc off with out the bolt holes all discs have them surely not sure why yours wouldnt if mine have? I used a breaker bar to get the two bigger bolts out the other two were easy. You should have painted the calipers while you had it all in bits.......

Looks well fella, you feel the differnece in them already ?

Have you put some copper grease on the pads where they sit in the carrier?

Stick where was i meant to put copper grease?? I just took out the whole calliper cleaned it an regreased the 2 pistons that go in and out(not sure what they are called)

Nic i would have repainted them but u cant really see them on mine so i dint do it, but i did spend the whole afternoon sandin and wire brushing them... i had to hammer them out have a look at the pic u can see the impact marks from my hammer

Where the back of the brake pads fits into the little tin clips in the caliper, a smear of copper grease on them to stop them squeeling and seizing in the clips.

Yeah good to make sure they are free and push in and pop out themselves, good to grease up too. The pads just needs abit grease on though for good measure,

I'll get a pic of a pad at work and show where to grease up etc..

The brakes should firm up abit more to when bedded in, always good to have faith in the middle peddle.
