Any time I unlock the l200 on a cold / frosty morning 🎶 the alarm suddenly goes off...
Never does it when it's warm or temps are higher.
Knowing my experience with Japanese cars, I tend to think its a battery issue, that is draining losing charge a bit when locked - and its worse in the cold weather, but in case anyone else has had a similar problem, I thought I'd better ask 😀

The alarm on these things is particularly fickle. You're right in that the battery condition plays a significant part in how the alarm system reacts. Mine did exactly what yours was doing and it would also do it if there were sudden steep increases or decreases in temperature. I had to revert to locking the truck with the key to ensure that I wasn't rudely interrupted by a wailing alarm at the most inopportune moments. New battery and she's as good as gold.
I started life with nothing and I still have most of it left!
