Selecting 4llc

#1 by Chris C , Sat Oct 26, 2019 4:31 pm

Anyone got any suggestions or help with this one.

Just bought a 2010 L200 with super select. When I select 4llc I have no drive. The orange diff lock light is lit on the dash but not the green drive lights. Hoping this a problem with the selector?

Just checking , you say the lights aren't lit and it has no drive...it doesn't actually move at all in 4llc?

Truck needs to be stationary to select 4L or 4Llc, also these should only be used on loose surfaces Mud, snow, gravel.
Have you got drive in 4H? may be worth getting it on grass to see if you can spin the front wheels.
Are you getting drive in 4L?
Do you get the 4 green wheel lights?

It's on grass so can try all the other drive options, all fine it's just the low setting with no drive

I'd be tempted to suggest you're not pushing the lever far enough for it to select or maybe somethings amiss with the gear stick preventing it from moving as far as it should
mine needs a firm shove to get it into 4L on the occasions I've used it

Some Mitz's have a N position between 4H and 4L/4llc for other purposes... could we get a picture of the offending selector with the writing visible?

Hold up, Krutly's used 4l in the walker? Must be armageddon as that thing is tarmac with a roadside puddle as extreme offroading for him!

Thanks for the replies, read another post about the selector so removed the console and had a look at the plate at the bottom of the selector. No obvious damage but the gearbox has been out as there were some trim screws missing.
I'll get a photo of the selector and post it later, might be that I can't push it far enough to fully engage?

Pardon the capt. obvious question... When you push the lever from L to LLC, are you pressing the lever down then forward?

Yes as previously said to go into 4L and 4Llc the lever needs pushing downwards

Yes although it's not easy and doesn't move downwards much. Reading the other threads on here and having found out the gearbox has been out I think it's a problem with the selector lever not being out back correctly or the plastic bush being damaged.

Going to strip it next weekend ( dark evenings now!) thanks for your help all, further thoughts welcome!

The whole shape and movement features are designed as an aid/safety tool for safe operation of the transfer system so you don't need to be looking at the lever distracting you from the task at hand.It could also be that something isn't lined up right further down the rod/gearbox side of things. This isn't strictly a gearbox problem as 4wd is the transfer box associated with it. It might even be that someone's replaced with a 4work/4life 2h,4h,4l no 4llc, and it's struggling because there isnt actually a setting that matches the selector. @Nick could this happen?

In theory Tek , yes the gearbox could have been changed for a super select but that can be easily answered by knowing what ' model ' Chris has, if it's a higher end spec then it would have come as STD but as you say 4life/ 4 work only came with Easy select.

Any modification is possible if you are prepared to pay the money to have it done...personally can't see someone changing the box like that( as no doubt you'd need to change the transfer box too )

maybe it's just the transfer knob from a super select

Mom's old Polo was similar, used as a demo and any old gearknob stuck on... 2 years before she realised it came with 5 gears not the 4 on the knob... including a trip down to barcelona

It's a Bararian, spoke to the previous owner he had the gearbox rebuilt (not the transfer box) but never used 4llc. Unless you better educated folk know better I think it's the right box, unless something horrible has happened inside might well be the selector has not been re fitted properly ( I hope!)

There is a plastic bush at the bottom of the 4x4 stick that wears, could be that
