Well, being the numpty I am, while replacing aux belt, idler bearing ,tensioner, on Disc , thought I would have a 'tidy up' and degrease the front a bit, also viscous fan!! yeh yeh , not good!! didn't realise it needed grease in it . it now sounds a bit dry. Can I put hi temp silicon grease in it? wd do a -30 to +200 spray silicon. Can I use that?
cheers guys
did have warrior, but crossed over to disco 2.

One's oil, the other's grease... If you use the grease, you may end up with the fan failing... because the grease is a totally different compound to oil. (Think new engine worst case).
You're at a choose point, try and bugger around to put oil in, or pull out that moth infested wallet of yours for about £60 and get a new assembly.
I nominate Paulw for the first Donkey of 2020.

And that's just come back to bite me squarely in the backside. I have to remove paul's nomination and nominate myself for using the wrong lever at the traffic lights and then wondering if i'd blown something as I revved and sat still.

As far as I’m aware you shouldn’t be able to wash the oil from inside the viscous fan as it’s a sealed unit , my guess would be the idler pulley has gone noisy so probably worth a squirt of wd40 to see if it shuts up , sure I read somewhere about idler pulley problems for aux belt
02 animal double cab back on the road after two years in a barn
shogun sport , not much I can say about it really other than it’s slower than the l200 🤷♂️
