Hi guys been changing the discs on my l200 and the backing plate behind are totally shot these seem expensive to replace for what they are... are these needed to be on ? at first i though not but the it seems the back of the hub slides into them to keep dirt out from the bearings

The back plates can be removed as the bearing seal should be in the hub , the purpose of them is to keep some crap out and aid with some disc cooling , a lot of off-roading guys run without them to aid cleaning the crap out of the calliper and stop muck getting trapped behind it

Yeah i would rather not have to fork out over 100 quid for new ones but millner 4x4 reckon they are a mot fail of not fitted and like i say on the back of the hub is a plastic pressed in part and a rubber seal this then slides into the female part of the backing plate without the backing plate surly all shit will get to that rubber seal and wreck it
