#1 by malky , Sun Nov 27, 2011 1:37 pm

has anyone bought used or seen the winch trays from definately tough?

how good are they?

do they fit behind the existing mitsi bumper and if so what mods need to be done to get it in?

cheers

Malky

I believe they can fit on top or below , between the chassis rails - be aware that the higher the winch sits - on, or behind the bumper, that when operating, the first thing that happens under strain is the front of the truck dives downwards - the lower the better i would suggest

aye but you do have a better angle of approach with the winch bumper and skid plate

I would like to do something like on kappas truck with mine. He started off with the winch tray then had the remains of a winch bumper put around it.

Ok I have tracked down a tray - now what qualifies as a slimline winch??????? as the manufacturers conveniently dont list them as slimline or not, can we start a list of winches that definately fit behind the existing l200 bumper please?

It will be useful for me and may prove useful for someone else in the future.

cheers

i went with definately toughs one

yeah i can wait till the tray arrives and work from that - thought there might be a wealth of knowledge ou thtere with a list of winches that already fit the bill. Never mind i'll get the tray and work out which winches fit.....i may even share that info....maybe

most of the winches I looked at malky, had the wee box piggy backing on the support rails joining each end - on the one i bought, the box comes off and now sits alongside - extend the leads and it can sit in the engine bay thereby reducing its size. The only thing that really determines the size is the drum the line runs on both in terms of of width and height (dia) a 12k lbs winch is only marginally bigger than an 8k lbs one

good info think the box is the solenoid? - anyway i'll get the trayand figure it out - i was just testing the water to see if there was a recommended model. the issue for me is less space than in a winch bumper as i plan on retaining the existing - i'll do the leg work - may even do a write up once i am done.

you could always hang the winch upside down under the winch tray - some might say "water!" but i would suggest its a/ waterproof, and b/ more likely to drain easier underneath than on top - the centre of gravity will be lower - don`t see a prob?

aye could do - as long as its above dif height and doesn't compromise approach angles then why not - lets face it, if its not waterproofed then putting it on in fort william it'll be fuct pretty quickly (thats a technical term * - Failed Under Continuous Testing..... )

cheers

Where do the winch bumpers actually bolt on to? With the front end of my truck needing a little attention, I wouldn't want to fit a bumper to have it come off when it was used ! Lol

the ends of the chassis rails mate - mine has plates down the side of each rail and m10`s x4 through each rail - its not coming off!
