hi i drive a 2004 l200 warrior ,and im hoping for some advice
i was driving down the road had a couple of power dips while driving then at traffic lights ,engine lost power emi light came on and then the engine cut out, luckily managed to get out of the flow of traffic.
rac came out and did a diagnostic which showed error code for
dtc 12 boost pressure sensor
dtc 21 ne sensor (main)
if you turn the key normal for starting it fires then cuts out , if you turn the key continually it will rev up then goes into tick over with no power on the accelerator ( just blows black smoke if reved)
ive changed the boost sensor ,and have ordered a new crank sensor ( not looking forward to stripping out the front end )
has anyone else had the same problems/symptoms
thanks for any help advice

Is it a genunine boost sensor , or one of the chinese knock offs from evil bay? reason I ask is the cheap ones don't last and in fact sometimes don't even work , making you think the problem may be elsewhere
@123hotchef @Heathen and @Rob1307 enjoy these types problems...

A failure of the crank sensor will cause all sorts of issues as it won’t know where the engine is rotation wise in relation to when to inject fuel so that could be your main issue, the boost sensor one could something as simple as overboost or the brown solenoid on the inlet manifold is playing up.
It’s not a bad job replacing the crank sensor but I would be prepared to replace the bottom pulley while you are in there as they are known to fail, this leads to anther potential issue you you may have where the bottom pulley spins on the crank and takes out the pickup ring for the crank sensor altering the timing so they won’t run. That one is a worse case scenario

@ 123hotchef

@ Rob1307

@andy68 i feel your pain, I ruined my back working with a slipped disc that went into the nerves in my back. I’m now medically retired and can’t do much nowadays so don’t push it and let it get back to as normal as possible

Might be worth a quick check... Does the boost sensor hose connect to the inlet manifold downstream of the egr? It could be blocked with carbon build up in the manifold. Poke something through to make sure it breathes.

The boost sensor goes to a metal pipe on the manifold near the solenoids and can block up with carbon from the manifold

after stripping it down found the problem the bottom pulley bolt had sheared , which now means drilling /punch the reaming threads out and go from there hopefully the crank isn't damaged
