I prefer regular cheap steel as then I will have a fighting chance to correct it with my sledge when its all twisted and full of dents.

Yea regular steel sounds best. Then people can customise them how they want. Tried a few different ones on my Landy. Aluminium ones are crap and just bend. Fancy stainless ones get nicked. (don't live in Doncaster). Good old steel ones do the job fine. And if u keep bashing them they stay rust free. And like danne says when u hit a big rock u can re bend it back to shape-ish.

Griegboy, If we galvanised them they would be boring grey, yuck.

But once galvanised, you can paint it.

The pics look as if these are direct replacements for the sump only part and not the angled part that covers the steering arm and Anti roll bar, as such your never going to see it unless your ran over by it, so galvi would be my choice.
Colin is right you could paint or powder coat on top, when I got my fence done at the house the blacksmith did say to let the galvi weather a little before painting or the paint would flake off

Just to confirm here..
~Original Post~
Just had a call from the guy who used to make my shackles, he's finished bending me some front bash plates, direct replacement for the originals ( same bolts etc ) 4mm steel, cold folded..... £30 each plus a tenner delivery.
These will not be Asfirs but will be much stronger than the originals and very much cheaper.
Rear plate to follow in a couple of weeks.
Only the front plate

Comes back to just behind the Anti Roll bar where the original plate is mounted..onto the crossmember..

Lez can he make a hole where the sump plug is?
Will save a job come service time.
Hole needs to be big enough for socket to fit through or fat fingers.

The hole will have to be pretty big when you first take the sump plug out the oil rushes out quite fast so it wont drop straight down it will flow a couple of inches away from the sump if you know what I mean

my guess would be your sump plug is on the garage floor next to all your other stuff (or offside corner of your sump)

that said, I have an "easy drain" sump plug system on mine that I got off Bootsie a while back and it works a treat, no need to remove the sump guard to change the oil .........
however ...........
I prefer to take the guards off anyway so you dont get oil drip down on them when taking the filter off. Still, the easydrain thingy does stop you getting burning hot oil all down your arm when you take the sump plug out.

I suspect this thread will be many many pages on conclusion like the "snorkel" thread was as there seems to be a fair bit of interest here

the new magnetic red sump plug is on the garage floor well in a drawer any how.
I did think of getting the easy drain sump plug they did a group buy on the dark side a few years back.
Oil dripping on these new guards would benefit them.
Stop them rusting!

And before anyone says it the difference in price is because the new shape are wider on the rear plate and has many more bends to them...
