#1 by handymanat39 , Mon Oct 07, 2013 6:38 am

Hi all
New to the forum, just bought a l200 o4 plate. I have a whistle from the turbo area when using the throttle can almost play a tune when driving, do these suffer with problems ?.

Morning mate, first thing To check on, is any air leaks on the turbo pipes.... Just out of curiosity, is this whistle more like a vibration whistle, rather than a purse ya lips type whistle .... If it is them most likely a manifold gasket blown..

Mine whistles more since putting a K&N filter in it, putting a snorkel on and doing the de-cat on the exhaust. Before that I could barely hear it

it's standard in that I haven't d1cked with the engine in any way ...... ish
I have removed the egr and cooler, fitted a second scoop, fitted a snorkel, fitted a K&N element filter in the original airbox then bespoked it onto the snorkel. Not touched anything else on the engine.

Well coming from disco land, I thought I had turbo whistle, but it turned to be exhaust manifold gasket.

did have warrior, but crossed over to disco 2.
Thought I could see light at the end of the tunnel, but it was somebody with a torch bringing more work!

Hi thanks for the replys, as far as I know it's standard apart from blanking the egr. It's the type that you blow through your lips.
Checked over pipes look ok, but I think the waste gate arm has too much play up n down.

Hi Andy, did you get to the root of this whistle?

I have a 53 plate Warrior and when I take my foot off the throttle it whistles, the higher the revs the bigger the whistle. I'm thinking the PO has had some sort of boy racer thingy fitted... This is my first L200, so I don't know if this is normal or not.
Can anyone advise me on what to check to track down what's causing this please?

First thing to check is in the back, lift the canopy hatch and look inside if there is an old chap with a flat cap and a sheep dog then RESULT you have found the source of the whistle....

Failing that i wouldn't worry too much unless it is really loud as most if not all the motors i have had with a turbo have whistled to some extent.

Oh it's loud alright, especially if I have the window open. If I give it the old lead boot, when I take my foot of the peddel it's a sort of whoosh that finishes with a whistle. Sort of sounds cool, but wondered if something is a miss.

Bart, the only thing in the back is my Springer, when he hears the whistle he's tearing it up in there looking for the game to pick up...

HA HA i know what you mean marty i have 3 of them but they have that selective gun dog hearing syndrome where they only hear the whistle when it suits them.
