Aftermarket seat fitting

#1 by Thebeardedlady , Thu Dec 29, 2011 2:00 pm

Hello all, hope you've had a good Christmas!

I got a set of half leather recaro seats for Christmas and I want to fit them to the pickup. They are originally out of a rover vittesse turbo although the runners on them are apparently for a golf.

I have looked on the Internet and the best I could find was subframes for £180 each!!!! Does anyone know a way to fit the seats without spending an obscene amount, be it through cheap runners or modification or what ever else?

Cheers!

Depending on the current runner you may get away with bolting them throght the floor with some big repair washers or modifying the runner with a bit of angle iron etc.
Best post a photo of the runners so we can see

I had cobra buckets out of a hilux, into a Mk2 Escort then into a P100 pickup and didn't need to change the runners, just modded them a little
I also had MK2 cavilier SRI recaro's in one of my Escorts and fitted Rs turbo seats into an Astra van so anything is possible.
Basil has rage bucket seats in his and may be able to assist

I was kind of hoping to fit through the original bolt holes as my intention would be to keep the seats when I sell the car on so don't want to destroy the floor. I'll post some photos tomorrow.

You could always get a couple of old seats from a scrapper and graft the runners onto your recaro's, probably the best bet, I'm sure someone on here may have a pair of old seats kicking about from a warrior interior transplant etc

hey beardy! fitted my rage buckets using the subframe off the old seats (doesn`t damage them, and allows you to use the tilt slide mechanism - take the sliders off the recaro`s and replace (possibly with spacers, washers and more nuts) with the mitsi ones. has worked a treat apart from i shoulda used nylockers cos the bloody things come undone after I`ve heaved my vast bulk into the seat a few dozen times

Good luck

Does anyone know if it would be possible to fit a bench seat in a classic shape double cab? I've always liked the bench seats in old pick ups and would love to have one in mine. 3 in the front
I can see the handbrake being a problem though.
Does the single cab, classic shape, come with a bench seat?

Easiest way i found was using 10mm flat bar bolting to seats original subframe then into existing holes, means everything is still usable

Me too now ..... L200 seats are wank! I might speak to my mate actually and see if be can alter them a little he used to sculpt bike seats etc, they are just too flat, need bigger bolsters.

I found a set of Evo 10 (YES 10...!!!!) seats on Ebay, made from beautiful alcantara.

Absolute bargain as the airbag has gone off in the drivers bolster. I reckon it wouldn't be too hard for a upholsterer to fix up.

If it wasn't for rock sliders, diagnostic machines, christmas and my wife.... i'd be bidding.

I like the idea of keeping the standard leather seats due to them matching the rears, and being wipe clean if I get excited, I wouldn't want alcantara for every day, I have it in the P1 would worry it would get wrecked too quick.

I just find the seats don't hold you in well enough.

if they`re like my rage ones you can sit them on the mitsi chassis , bolt them on and thence use the slide as normal. just makes them a bit higher than normal Rob
