2003 warrior bad starting

#1 by Yorkie , Fri Jul 18, 2014 6:11 pm

Hi everyone,
I'm new to the forum so I hope I'm doing things correctly.
I have a 2003 warrior which I've had since new,the problem I have at the moment is when I start her she takes 5/10 seconds to start tand when she starts a cloud of black smoke comes out of exhaust.
Once started the tick over is erratic for a few minutes (would cut out if not reved a little).
I was told by local garage it could be injectors, these were removed and serviced. No improvement.
Then I was told it was the glow plugs, these were removed and tested with a mega, one was not working, replaced. Again no improvement.
I have put a volt meter on the connecting bar on the glow plugs and the voltage is 11.7v on warmup. The voltage on the glow plug solenoid is 12.68v live side and 11.7 switched side (is this normal).
Has anyone a solution to my problem, I would be very grateful for any help
Cheers Ian.
Ps once warm starts perfectly.

It could still be down to a naff fuel filter. You can add some forte diesel treatment..it clears all the build up pre and post ignition in the fueling system..good stuff

Is the filter housing ok ?
Try pumping it,is it soft to push?
Try starting it after a couple of pumps

are you running common rail or standard pump? sounds like over-fueling on start up to me. check your coolant temp sensor, maf and map readings and also if your common rail your fuel pressure reading

Had this on mine a couple of years ago. By the end of winter had to keep a spare battery charged for starting each morning or if left for more than a few hours. Turned out that my fuel pump return was blocked. Hope this helps, ran fine once started and warm. Main cause was running a mix of fuels.
