Hi all my auto gearbox won't engage into top gear anymore (4th) it's been to an auto hear box specialist and had new gearbox oil and filters fitted and sump checked. Truck works fine when cold yet soon as warmed up it will not engage. It's been in a diagnostics machine and is bringing up no faults. Here's my big headache, I have a warranty on the jeep but warranty will not pay out until broken component is identified and it's now been to 2 garages (apparent gear box specialists) and iv spoke to a mitsubishi sevice centre and they have said its pure speculation if no fault codes are coming up. I'm banging my head against a wall and have been without jeep for 5 weeks now!!!!!!😡😡😡😡😡😡 anybody please please please help????

Who is the warranty with? If it's mitsi then dump it at their garage and let them figure it out.

My money's on a clutch pack fault. Either way, it's gotta come apart for a look-see, and only a genuine auto box specialist can do that cos of the super-duper clean environment required. This ain't something a dealer can do.

I remember from a long while back that the loom on the early auto newshapes was prone to breakage.
here are some replies from bootsie about what to check

This has happened to other owners where two sensore have been replaced to no effect - in both cases the loom was later found to be worn and wire was bared. Usually where the loom is fastened to the gearbox casing, the ciips are very tight and over time with vibration and movement of the gearbox they eventually lose the insulation and short. it needs fixing before 2 or more wires wear and touch because they could cause more damage especially to the ECU. One guy found so many faults he just fitted a new loom but it was quite expensive. but fixed the problem.
This has been the subject of 6 threads on different forums, mainly in 206-208 auto gearboxes, time consuming job but a cheap fix if you find the fault.

if you remive the clips on the loom starting at the front of the gearbox one at a time you should be able to spot the wear, failing that, with the ignition off, just test for continuity on each seperate wire between connectors on the gearbox loom.

You should be able to do it from under the truck, last one I saw like this in a thread the guy had the same result after taking it to a mitsi dealer but found it himself afterwards. maybe if you can find a damaged cable it would be worthwhile taking it back to them to fix it.
