When I took the EGR off one of the bolt holes in the inlet manifold is stripped. I cannot get a new bolt to screw in and it evidently needs shimming which I can't get done today and probably not tomorrow. So for now I have fitted both blanking plates anyway and the vaccuum blanking tube. But the inlet blanking plate is held on with just one screw. Now to my knowledge this should be ok to drive until I can get to an engineering company.
Can anyone confirm my thinking? Or / and offer any advice or help about what to do in the here and now?

Should be a ok as long as you have a good seal but will need to get thread cut asap not sure what else you can do short term ...maybe a small g clamp and clamp the plate down very very short term til you get it done proper good luck someone may have another/better idea

G clamp - good idea. It has sealed quite well for just having one screw in place.

Well I took the lunge and took it for a test drive. As far as i can figure out myself, air getting into the inlet shouldn't affect anything. After all that's what the inlet is for. Particles on the other hand is a different matter. But I believe the seal is too tight for any particles to get in. I can't shift around or wiggle the plate by hand. So that one screw is doing a good job I'd say. everything ran fine on the 20 minute test drive.

From what I can remember if it's the blank plate on the top of the inlet you can get to the under side to fit a nut so as a temp measure you could use a slightly thinner bolt M6? with washer and put a nut and washer on the underside, personally if the thread is that damaged it may not be able to be re cut in the original size so just drill it out and put a longer M8 bolt through it and put a nut on the bottom
Hope that makes sense

My inlet is on the side of the manifold. And I don't think there's room to drill a bolt and nut through. But maybe, will take a look in the morning. Nice idea though.

Ah, yes much different, perhaps a helicoil or cut a bigger thread in it, I done a repair years ago in a similar situation and bonded a piece of threaded rod in with araldite as a temporary repair to get me home as I was far away without access to parts, the repair lasted the further 2 years I had the car and to my knowledge is still okay

Heli coil or cutting a new thread is first choice. For now it's working. I'll clamp it tomorrow or wack some gun-gum in there to hold me over while I go about planning a suitable permanent repair.

Try running a thread chaser/tap through it. If in doubt, drill it out, retap a new thread and put in a bigger bolt.

if theres a bit of thread left then try a stud with bearing lock on it, put bearing lock on the thread that goes in the hole, screw it in by hand and leave it over night, then use a nut in place of the bolt, dont use nut lock its a different stuff

Cheers guys. Think I might try Treeboa's idea first. Then if not am going to order a heli coil kit.
