Hold on, so people have snorkels fitted and don't even go off road, I hear some pointless things but this takes the piss. Please tell me you still have standard tyres on so you look even more ridiculous.

Needed on new shapes if you are going in deep water cos the air intake is to the front just under bonnet edge, good for cold air but not water.

2006 'new shape' from new 66000 miles, no problems, just serviced every 12k miles.

Yeah, but it's always a worry if you're gonna make it out.

It's on my list of things to buy, unfortunately it's not near the top.

I can supply pics of the inner wing cleareance, infact, loook at my WIP thread there may be one there, if not i'll dig some out.

I must admit i do think having a snorkel looks pretty cool and finishes the look off, if i was in the market for one, i'd being buying a cheap one and going with that.

what size pipe could we get along the inside of the wing , without cutting the wing away ?

Right folks, as promised I had a good look at shoguns snorkel yesterday, It was a copy of the safari one but if your not a massive offroad mental case then I would recommend it, Only problem I think these ones have are they are more likely to smash if hit hard, but if your not going to drive through a dense forrest anytime soon then it should be ok.

Im hopefully gonna get one

Oh & Shogun, can I suggest you loose those horrible stickers, if not then the boys can do it for you next weekend free of charge

depending on your usage a snorts not only good for water crossings, it as has been said keeps the dust when you drive on dusty roads out of the filter/engine, main reason i believe why our austrailian cousins have them fitted

Could always reinforce them by putting another layer of fibreglass over the top of it or summit like that?

I think snorckles look cool as feck, i understand what the guys are saying about performance either a detriment or positive influence on the engine. My two pennies worth- As allready stated cold air holds more oxeygen, Intercoolers sat ontop of engine blocks is the kinda thing the japs pull of and who thought of it needs shooting TBH, I am big into my car tuning, the first thing any subaru owner should do is remove there TMIC ( top mounted Intercooler) and fit an FMIC ( front mount IC). Reason being more cool air flowes over the fins so it brings intake temps down and give the engine or more importantly each cylinder cooler oxeygen rich air to combust with the fuel and this gives a bigger bang hence more power.

With a deisel engine ime not sure it will make a lot of a difference, I am no tech head on this but doesnt deisel perform better when the engine is warm? I.E some engines struggle to start when cold but once warmed up they are fine. I know Deisel has a higher value when it comes to energy released under combustion versus petrol but this could be where the cold air feed arguament comes into play as if deisel does burn better/more efficiently in a warmer environment then the cool air may be a bad thing, the effect i cannot see being massivly noticable as deisel's run higher compression ratios so its abit different to petrol engines. The volvo T5 has a design flaw where the IC is between the rad and air con rad meaning you get continually high intake temps and the car itself overfuels to cool it down reducing power, you put a big FMIC on them and they run as happy as a pig in shit !

I've sent an email to Alien snorkels,
http://www.aliensnorkels.co.uk/
who are a UK manufacturer / importer, who do a large range of Jap and Jeep polythene snorkels cheap as chips mostly around the 80 quid mark, only problem is that they list every other mitsi than the L200, however they do say that they may be able to supply ones that are not listed, I have stated that this is a trade enquiry with the potential to buy several unit, we'll see what they come back with

Check my thread "who says you can't tune a 4D56"- I will be putting a bigger FMIC on soon as I figure out how to mount it.
