Classic cruise control?

#1 by Yoda , Mon Apr 30, 2012 8:29 pm

Did I read somewhere that it is possible to fit a cruise control to a non fbw classic? Might have been on the dark side site....

I believe I could get a new shape one to work, just have to fit a speed sensor to the gearbox. But honestly do not have the time at the moment to gt anywhere near trying it.

Yes looked at the kit but it was over complicated, the one they make for the new shape could fit the FBW classics, but would need a spedd pulse sensor fitted to the gearbox and also the accellerator loom would need changing
as new shapes is 6 wire socket and Classics are 8 wire. Asked the manufacturers if they could produce one for the classics but they weren't interested due to lack of demand as the vehicles are no longer being produced.

mines the poor mans version, basically its a locking choke cable mounted where the hand throttle used to fit ( stopped that about 02) and a solderless nipple into the receiver on the pedal

Brian, there are only two wires to connect to the pedal, that isn't hard, and the speed sensor is available off the shelf from Sailes Sensors.
Its just the having the time to try it out for me..

Nick, I'd like to but i won't be getting anywhere near it this side of autumn the way things are going so I am going to sit it out, I've been so close to buying it about 10 times and then realised it will just sit there and never get used.

But there are 5 wires that go from the Accellerator pedal to the cruise ecu, plus one wire to earth.Brake pedal is easy with just 2 wires.

Two are signal voltages, two are their grounds, the other is most likely used as a power feed for the ECU from the pedal feed. Brake switch isn't really an issue as there is only a switched live to deal with, the other wire on the pedal could well be the kick-down switch.

Wenn Sie hier auf Links zu eBay klicken und einen Kauf tätigen, kann dies dazu führen, dass diese Website eine Provision erhält.

right hand lower edge of the dash is a blank, bout fag lighter size, thats were the old hand controls used to fit, obviously cheaper to make a blank than a new moulding, so you purchase a locking type choke cable
Werbung: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CHOKE-CABLE-TW...ec#ht_500wt_716
now you may have to shorten the outer, this you bolt in though the hole were the blank used to be, you may have to get a couple of washers depending if the holes too big, you route the cable through the bottom of the dash untill it meets the throttle pedal, at this point you wants the outer to be just a bit longer than you need, now i made a top hat to fit the outer and the hole on the bracket in front of the pedal, now looking at the pedal theres another hole you will see with a slot in it, this is were the solderless nipple fits
Werbung: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Solderless-Scr...95#ht_500wt_716
you pass the inner cable through the nipple, , work out how much you need, cut off the excess, fit and adjust so theres a bit of free play

to use it or the way i do is get to my required speed, reach down, pull the knob to get the slack out of the cable then twist it into lock

just remember unlike a real cruise control operating the brakes or the clutch wont disengage it

So basically you've retro fitted hand throttle? I've got a hand throttle on mine as it is a 2002. Just looking for more.

No it was on the truck when i got it but it was broken so i have gone through the entire system, dismantling the electric motor, replaced the ecu and checked all contacts and i don't think it will be that hard to fit one but dam boring because you have to be up side down under the steering wheel when you do the electrics.

A universal Vacuum / Solenoid cruise could be easily fitted and connected as Mike has via the pedal, still need the speed sensor though.
