Steering stops

#1 by LezT , Fri Oct 21, 2011 9:55 pm

After fitting 32mm wheel spacers a few months ago, I finally got round to adjusting the steering stops this morning, new the truck will turn round in about a 15 - 18m circle, needed 5 shunts before.

The how to will be up in a couple of days with pics of where the bits are and what to do.

Edit... my pics need to be redone, I thought I had captured all that was required for the how to but on trying to organise it, it isn't very clear, I'll get some new pics done early next week and redo the How To.

I was going to do this, until I was warned it can damage the drive shafts! They can pop out!

32mm spacers and a stop adjust, it really makes a shed load of difference.

Ive just had the tracking done, if I fitted spacers, am I right in saying in theory tracking should still be good?

if you have a late classic shape animal that came with 18 inch wheels you will probably find the stops at thier maximum adjustment already, mine and two of my mates were from new

Errrrr?
i AM CONFUSED, ARE THESE TRUCKS SUPPOSED TO "TURN" CORNERS TOO ????
Will have to try this on mine, I generally get out, place large trolley jack under rear of truck, lift, turn, set down and then reverse into parking spot.

Bit the bullet and tweaked mine back so only 5 threads showing. WOW...!!! massive difference, it really is unbelievable how much a few turns of a bolt can make to the steering.

when I checked mine they were fully adjusted so it might be right about the late shape animals, I just fitted my new steering box last night and took it for a test drive, it turned ok to the left but only approx 1/2 turn to the right, gave me a shock when I had to shunt to get round a corner. will have to remove the pitman arm and move it round a couple of splines then realign the steering wheel, why does work need done on the truck when the weather is bad and I cant get into my garage, now you know why I drink lots of beer and dont do today what I can put off until tomorrow
