Hi

Just joined after becoming an L200 owner 53 plate Warrior

Will be looking for some help with a running issue - have asked Admin to upgrade me so I can post in the correct area

Hoping to find some answers

Thanks

Thanks, near to Glasgow, it's a long story but I am really struggling for info. I didn't want to get into it in a welcome thread but since you asked.....

After a lot of checking I have came to the conclusion that the eeprom (mounted on top of the fuel injection pump) is faulty. I can't find what it does or where to get one, or if a new one can just be plugged in.

With the eeprom plugged into the loom I lose the 5 volt feed from the ecu to things like the EGR position sensor, boost sensor, throttle pedal etc, this throws up these as faults as there is no power to them. With the eeprom unplugged at the pump 5 volts is present to all the sensors including the plug to the eeprom, all faults (bar the eeprom) will clear. Sadly the engine won't take throttle properly with it unplugged so I either need one or need someone to help me understand it's function and the likelihood of replacing it without compatability issues.

Of course Mitsubishi may call it something else but the part number led to a few foreign sites calling it eeprom.

Hoping the wealth of knowledge on here can shed some light for me.

I call it the rom but it could be your ecu at fault? do you have a eml on? code 46?

Yeah it's code 46, ECU seems to be ok when the rom isn't plugged in, plug it in and the 5volt feed it and other sensors get disappears, like a short or something, unplug it and 5 volts is back.

Any thoughts, can this part be swapped out without any programming, what does it do?

yes mate they can be swapped out but they rarely go wrong i would take the ecu out and visually inspect the trcks and components for any dammage and check the pins for corrosion. that is a more likely candidate IMO @badbaz

Thanks, does that draw more current than the other sensors combined then?

I find it strange that when it is disconnected the power supply is ok but plugged in it goes?

What does it do? I searched until I was sick last night but couldn't find any answers.

i am not sure exctly it controls something in the pump

and the voltage should be between 4.5-5.5V

There is no physical connection to the pump, just electrical - but I see some reference to it being possibly a proximity sensor - maybe that's just rubbish lol

Unplugged rest of sensors on the same circuit get a good 5v and all faults relating to them clear but engine won't rev up. It wasn't until later last night it dawned on me the flap on intake may have shut with that unplugged.

Will check that later. I don't think it's the ecu but nothing is ruled out for now.....

Cheers

That didn't help so it wasn't the flap closing.

Did some more checks and 100% when the Injection Volume Adjusting Rom (will call it eeprom as that's what Bosch call it) the circuit being supplied by the ECU with 5volts loses power, that's the EGR sensor, boost sensor, throttle position sensor, one other I can't remember and the eeprom itself. If I unplug the eeprom all the sensors get the power back, including the eeprom multiplug on the loom.

Given that the Mitsubishi wiring diagram calls it Injection Volume Adjusting Rom I guess it is critical to correct running....

So what I've got when that is disconnected just now is no low down power but it will boost higher up the rev range.

What I really need now is some kind person to do me a favour and check their eeprom for continuity between the red wire on the eeprom loom and the 4 other wires. I have continuity between the red and the black and the red and the yellow.
I have found a new eeprom online but it's £80 odd quid so a bit too much to try without some sort of confirmation it's actually got an issue.

It's fitted on top of the fuel injection pump and is easily accessed. Anyone feeling generous?

No, I'm reluctant to do that as I don't believe it is faulty. Reason being I picked up another 5volt feed from the ecu to see if it would sort it out but it didn't, but unplugging did.

I can take the ECU out and have a look though, just to rule it out.

Have you been using the 'Diesel fuel step III' troubleshooting guide? - not sure if you have access to it as your account has not been upgraded yet. Available here as a stop gap if you don't have it:

I have used that thank you. Going through one thing at a time using that guide led me to find the lack of 5volts to the various sensors being flagged as faulty. Then I found with the pump rom disconnected that the 5 volts was restored although it doesn't run great because there is now no correction.
With the rom plugged in it loses so many sensors that I end up with zero boost and it barely pulls it's butt up small inclines.

What I need here now (after I visually check the ecu) is someone near to me who's prepared to let me check some things on their pick up ;)

123 - I see you had this problem on another forum - what was your end result?

nickburt on that forum mentioned pump ROM although the guy's fault was a crank sensor due to damage - is nickburt a user on here does anyone know?

snap with 41 - problem when you start unplugging things is that the ecu shuts other things down. Seems a bit different for you as things start to work when you unplug something. The advice in that part if the trouble shooting guide seems obscene though, cos if there is a problem with the pump, then it also says you have to change the ecu... more useful if you have spares to swap out though.

Popped it out in 2 mins, opened it up and found nothing untoward....

Both sides of the board are clean, no signs of any damage or burning.

Can't post a pic yet as I'm still green

Fitted it with a towbar after checking the ECU in the hope I will have boost soon lol

Yeah, the ECU is beyond me in how it works but it would appear that the eeprom is my issue - it would just be good to get someone to compare with.

Is this engine in Shogun Sports too?
