Injection pump electronic control?

#1 by Yoda , Wed Jun 06, 2012 7:27 pm

I'm chatting to the dude over on pocuk who built the big power 4D56 in his pajero. He wants to know how the cable injection pumps are electronically controlled? His reasoning being if you can get a remap for the truck then the pump must have electronic control. I don't really know to be honest. It's a good question.

Cable pumps are not electronically controlled, manual throttle, overspeed governor, with advance mechanism and just an electric stop I believe.... I do not think the sensors are in place for any form of control, just boost really.

So, are we being mislead into believing that the cable throttle trucks CAN be remapped? Is it just the fbw trucks? Do the remap companies not realise there is a difference? Or am I missing something altogether?

Yep, that was kinda where I was going with this. A lot of remap companies list an available remap for the 1996 -2005 mark 4. Or as we know it the classic.. But it would seem this can only be done for the 2002 onwards fbw.

ah ok no. Seems 96 -01 is mark 3, 01 - 06 is mark 4, 05 - 11 is mark 5 and the 2010 onwards long bed is the mark 6.

Brilliant!
This seems to answer a question I had re the hydro kits... Many of them come with optional/supplied chips. As I'm rocking a '93 Non-FBW (Cable) 4d56 I am going to go for just a cell.
This should mean to see the fuel saving benefits I should just go a little lighter with the right boot when running HHO. Right?

for less pedal you should be getting the same power, that alone will give you a better mpg

Agreed. The 30% mpg that Basil is getting indicates that the HHO should give you 30% extra fuel, should you want it. So as Treeboa says, less of your own throttle but same power. I've learnt of late that more power and better mpg are one and the same thing when it comes to the methodolgy of achieving either.
