Hi Folks, I took The EGR off my K74 last weekend and was wondering, The EGR cooler seems redundant now and just another place for a water leek to start, so I was planning on getting a hose made up to just bypass it.
Anyone got any thoughts?

As chef says , take the cooler off no need for it. Either run a bit if 15mm copper pipe between the hoses , or my preference , run a complete new water hose using a p clip securing the pipe from flapping around and you can utilise the bolts where the egr valve was to hold the p clip

Forgive my ignorance, but what does removing the egr do? I know very little about engines.. 😕

There are two schools of thought... the cooler itself may become porous allowing gases into the water ( can't actually remember this happening to any one though..... ) or the actual valve clogs up with carbon and creates all sorts of running issues .. mainly black smoke and sluggishness though. Now that one i can vouch for as it happened to me... mine started to stick and in a matter of hours it went from sluggish to not starting .. and was purely the egr valve stuck!

Dale, The EGR recirculates your exhaust gases back into your pistons for combustion, its part of the "making Diesel Engines cleaner" bullshit thought up by Neil Kinnock and his parasitic friends. When you remove it you stop all that soot circulating around your engine clogging stuff up and replace it with nice clean air, what the engine is supposed to run on, it stops a lot of issues with clogged this and that and it makes your engine run better IMO, it takes about 10 mins and cost a tenner.

as far as I know every one has passed their MOT without it but if you wanted to be on the safe side it would take 10 mins to put it back on

Ah awesome thanks dude! If the egr is where I'm thinking it is it'll be easy to get to?
