Alan...bet you were beginning to wonder if you ever get it fixed!

Problems again this morning, got to the end of the street & it cut out. took a while cranking over then ran like shit, woulnt idle on its own, needed the pedal pressed to the floor & when it did rev it died when back to idle. Thought the temp fuel filter was the problem so I took it off & replaced it with a hand primer pump, there was an indentation in the fuel filter casing which might have drawn air. Seemed ok with the hand primer on it but when I went back an hour later it started & reved but wouldnt idle. Im thinking the egr might be stuck open & the exhaust gasses are choking the system buy the pressur at high reves allows it to run ok.

I have ordered a new filter head & it should be here next week.

any input from you guys would be appreciated. I dont think its the fuel pump as it does run, new fuel lines & pipes into the tank have also been fitted & tank was cleaned out last time so cant be contaminated. a fuel sample in a clear bottle looked clean aswell.

why do you still have the egr fitted?

at a guess, his is the older truck with no cooler, its the cooler thats the big problem

gotcha

removed the egr & pipe. blanked the posts & fitted another temp inline fuel filter, started almost first time & ran fine. lets see how long it lasts this time.

new filter head ordered aswell

Well, it seems to be running ok now, still to double check the pump timing & Biker62 is going to give me a loan of a home made dial guage.

However last night it developed a vibration, just been out to look & the rear uj on the propshaft has had it. think I will change the 2 on the rear section & the prop bearing just to be safe.

at this rate KKirton will be out for me as the trucks eating into what funds we have

Just ordered the 3 uj's & a centre bearing from Milners, £64.00 all in, bits will be here Thurs but not sure when I will be able to fit them.

Did my centre bearing and ujs a few years ago. And then centre bearing again at mutley's a while back. Milners bearings won't have the two spacer blocks on the tabs. Some folk have talked about a vibration if they aren't cut off and fitted to the new bearing.

& it continues..........

last week I got to the end of the Bypass & was sitting & the trafic lights & could hear a bearing noise, sounded like the waterpump bearing had given up. checked it at work & the aircon tensioner bearing was gone, simple fix.... cut of the belt

today, pulled up at a junction to hear the brakes grinding. driverside inner pad was metal to metal due to a sticking caliper pot. stripped the caliper & cleaned the pot & re fitted (hopefully the seal will hold) & fitted new pads. Disc was a wee bit scored but should be ok.

Just wondering when its gonna end or whats going to be next.............

Im just glad I can fix it myself so no labour costs

Amen to that Alan, I've started to work one day a week for free In a crash repair mechanics just to get knowledge and secretly in the daft hope that I might get a couple of days as a job.
Figure it's a good thing to know as with vehicles, it's one thing after another
