convertingfrom leaf to coil springs

#1 by Daveh , Sat Mar 28, 2015 9:40 am

Hi everyone is there any advantages to fitting a shogun rear suspension? Would it be better off road for more wheel flex and had anyone done it or got any pics or info?

Biggest downside would surely be that you couldn't carry as much weight in the tub..

new shape or old shape?

the front is always the problem on these

the rear leafs have pretty good articulation

It's a big-O job of work and fabrication. Cheaper and easier to fit some lighter springs and quality shocks. Or to buy a Shoggy.

It depends on what sort of off roading you want to do , if your looking at doing the trial events that require lots of articulation then there would be benefits to a coil sprung back end , if it's for green lanes and pay and play sites I would stick with the leaf springs and fit a rear diff lock so when it hangs it's back wheel like a dog taking a pee you can drive from the one that is still on the ground

idealy though u dont want the front end set up either as that dont offer much articulation really

Live front axle would be the way to go but loads of work!

Live axle with portal hubs is the way to go, but that's a serious challenge to both wallet and engineering skills.
