Yeah mate chopped all the hilux mounts off as they went onto the under side of the chassis luckily the hilux chassis legs must be roughly the same width apart as the L200 as the main vertical support ribs fitted snugly between the chassis legs on my truck so I made new brackets out of 7mm steel angle, and welded them in place and bolted through them also so their Clydebuilt now.
I also made a lug on from the hilux mount that I was able to drill and use as a side mounting point so it has 4 bolts onto the front face of the chassis and 2 going through the sides, so in theory it should be better supported than the L200 one that has all the bolts on the front face of the chassis

Thanks Luke, the truck got her new Drumclog underpants yesterday, their a little battle scarred and I'm needing to have them straightened and a wee bit ally welded and make some spacers, for the front mount, but they'll be on for the clog, which is only a week away now

Since fitting the winch bumper and winch I've not noticed any real adverse effects in terms of general handling etc............that was until last night when a tit in front of me decided they were lost and decided to stop and ponder their position in the middle of the road, I was an acceptable distance behind but it still required me to slam on the anchors fairly sharpish..........shit, I'm not stopping.........where's the button for the rear parachute, I could then clearly see the donkey in front pissing about with their sat nav oblivious to the fact that and almost 3 tonne truck was blasting its horn and about to obliterate their micra.
As I braced for impact and closed my eyes the truck stopped with about 6 inches to spare
So today's job is to have a butchers at the braking system, I'm sure it could be doing with pads and discs anyway and get the shoes adjusted and ensure the load valve is working
It wasn't a brake failure but my stopping distance has noticeably increased from what it was, its 100% under normal conditions but might be that I'm needing to upgrade the discs and pads to EBC or black diamond, in order to cope with the additional weight over the front axle.

Definitely something to think about, Greig! Glad you didn't find out the hard(er) way.
I guess all the weight on the front will lessen the (already useless) effect of the rear drums even more.

Yeah it's just where the weight is sitting that causes the issue, back in the good old Mk2 escort days we used to use brake bias pedal boxes when we put in the bigger engines to try and get the back end to bite a bit more so they weren't so nose heavy on braking

GB, I just overhauled my brakes. They passed the MOT in March at 51% efficiency. I'm told 49% is a failure.
I put new Pagid discs, pads and recon callipers on. I still have the rears yet to do. But I have new shoes, drums, spring kits, and slave cylinders ready to go.
Even with just the fronts done the difference is astonishing. As you know I carry 750kg in the tub. Even fully loaded she is amazing on the brakes now. I barely scrub them showing down from 70mph. Buy if I anchor up it is truly impressive.
I'll do the rears soon and one day I will do a disc conversion to the rear.
So you should find an overhaul will fix it. There's no way yours weighs what mine does fully loaded. And I'm full of confidence in mine now.

Very different weight distribution between yours and Greig's though, Luke. Being light at the back, and having a lot of extra weight in front of the front wheels ain't a good place to be starting from.
Maybe Greig needs to put 75 10KG bags of sand in the tub!

But Skoti, wont that make his acceleration slow or am I missing something
and shouldn't the sand be spread over the road near your house ?
on a serious note though, doing a proper brake service is one of the things on my to do list but as Grieg points out , it doesn't enter your mind till you have a close one
and Yoda, I shall be checking my MOT as I just assumed that a "pass" meant my brakes were fine ..... hmmmmmm
your skid plates look feckin nice GB ...... first dibs if you ever get rid please

Its not the weight that's the issue its where it is, Luke's load is far greater, however the load sensor valve compensates for the weight in the rear and improves the breaking efficiency and distribution, with the weight on mine hanging beyond the front wheels its putting more pressure on the front brakes and its got nothing to help it, I dare say even standard pads and discs would help, I'll see what's in the pot, I've spent slot in the truck lately
I got called into work this morning which scuppered my plans for this morning. I went out to strip the nudge bar off the old bumper as it was siezed solid and ive been soaking it in WD40 all week and eventually got one bolt off but the other is stuck solid and I'll probably have to cut it off but I got absolutely soaked, I'll be going back out shortly to get that sorted but I can't see me doing anything with the brakes today....bloody weather.
Yes Kurt, if I'm ever getting rid of the Asfirs your top of the list but hopefully that won't be for a long time to come, I also need to source the fuel tank plate to complete the set, so you da eBay man

Ah of course the weight of the bumper. I has forgotten about that. Still at least if you smash into the mindless d rover next time it should offer more protection!

Well......MOT time today, it passed with no advisories last year, so my hopes weren't high for this year, but much to my surprise it passed again, albeit it has an advise for slight corrosion to 2 rear brake pipes, and front pads and discs, having checked it they could do with replacing so thats a job for the weekend.
So all in all i'm pretty pleased, no mention of decat for the second year and emissions were rock bottom again

Wired up my roof spots today with one of Lez's looms, its a cracking bit of kit and very well made.
I also got myself a wee early birthday present in the form of a genuine Hi lift jack and not a eBay cheapo, got a great deal on it from one of the guys on the Scottish mud club, it also came with the tube adapter. I'm well chuffed

Not at the moment, but I can see it it being an addition after a few scrapes necessitate a re-paint.
I'm getting high lift points on my rock sliders and I could also jack off the tow bar if needs be

I always puzzle when I see them being used without specific points. Surely they would just slip out from under the vehicle?? Or am I being daft and missing something? (entirely possible)

This particular one is about 80 quid new Lez and another 30 odd for the tube adapter, I got them both for 40 quid, its only been used twice
You can buy who flung dung ones off of eBay for 30 quid but they generally dont last and are prone to failing during use, farm jacks can be very dangerous and I want the confidence that its not going to collapse or the mechanism fail on me

Cool. I just had it in my head that I you were to jack on a non specific point that as you lifted things would move at an angle and the jack would inevitably try pop out!

Well I replaced all the rear brake pipes yesterday and managed to knacker my master cylinder by the looks of it
So whilst waiting for the bits to come from daan saaf, I suppose I'd better crack on with the engine service today and as usual I forgot to get a bloody sump washer
I also need a tube of grease, so down to the shop I go, hopefully there will be no disasters today !
