Well oil, filer and fuel filter changed without incident, first time doing it with the asfirs on and it was nice not to have to drop the bash plate.

Took the apollo off to have a look.....Jesus I only cleaned it 5000 miles ago when I done the snorkel and it was choked with about every kind of flying insect in the British Isles, id say if your running a snorkel then clean you K&N or change your paper filter every 5k tops

I finally got time today to investigate the whining noise that has been bothering me for weeks and discovered that the air con pump bearing is shot and dry as a bone.

Apart from the noise it works fine and I don't want to do away with it but don't see the value in getting second hand unless they cannot be serviced, has anyone had one refined before???

Jumped onto the truck this morning after it had been lying a few days with no brakes, During its tome off the road i gave it a service, and put forte in the fuel filter.
On start up it felt totally different, smooth as silk and almost silent, pulled away and I couldn't believe how different it was, it was like stepping out of my truck and into a new Range Rover.
Then half a mile down the road it dawned on me that I'd forgot to re fit the K&N Apollo after cleaning and oiling it and its still in the garage.
Bugger........ its really made me think twice about re fitting it as its so much nicer to drive without it, but I'm stuck with it at the moment as I've got my winch control box located where the factory air box should be

You can never have too much truck-noise, Greig. You just need a stainless side exit exhaust to set it off

No i agree, you should never drive without an air filter,my point is,if there is THAT much difference leaving the k&n filter out, then surely they hinder performance. Which if you remember is what i mentioned i had heard about..

I took it off to clean it a few days ago, oiled it and left it to dry in the garage as the truck hasn't moved I just forgot until I obviously realised the is morning.

Daz, I would recommend folk to get the replacement k&n filter element for the standard air box but not the Apollo its way over priced and makes a god awful racket, which you get used to but its only when you don't have it that you realise how bloody loud it is....but not in a good way

Teaming up an Apollo with a snorkel makes an even louder racket! But, personally I like it.

I've got twin K&N 57i induction cones on my Sierra and had a 57i on my Z3M and they sounded awesome and produce a crisp induction note, but to me the Apollo sound more like a turbo hose has blown off

Well, changed the master cylinder this afternoon, all bled up and still no pedal.......bugger, started to doubt myself that I'd got the brake pipes the wrong way round, took a step back and checked everything again, it was then I discovered the bleed nipple on the top of the compensator valve...........b@stard!!!!!!

Bled again and would you Adam and Eve it, I eve got a brake pedal again

So my original master cylinder must be okay so if anyone needs one its here, just to fit my K&N and a grease of the front suspension and Wales here we come

Well, a wee update on my situation, as some may know from Daz's thread know my temp gauge was rising on the hills on the way back from Wales on Saturday.

Firstly checked the fluids and noticed the engine oil was down a bit, then it dawned on me that I hadn't topped it up since doing the filter last week and it took about half a litre which is about right to fill the filter, and low engine oil can effect the engine temps so that's one thing checked.
Coolant looks okay but a couple of bits of limescale crud floating about in the rad so I decided to give it a flush and change the coolant.

I popped a dish washer tab into the rad and took her for a drive with the heaters on full, within 10 mins i noticed that the heat from the heaters was roasting much more so than before, so thats good and tells me that there was perhaps some crud in the matrix that's shifted.
I took her down the M77 which has a steep hill which goes on for about a mile towards Stewarton and I thrashed the tits out of it on the way there and up the hill and the needle never moved, I went back round again and done it in 5th gear at 50mph which was making the engine labour and again the needle never moved

So in conclusion I'm happy I don't have any issue ( touches wood ) it must have been the combination of high atmospheric temp, having 5 folk in the truck and all the holiday stuff in the tub, low engine oil, and perhaps the dishwasher tab had cleaned the rad a bit making it more efficient, but I suppose time will tell

So I'm home now waiting for the engine to cool so I can take the stat out and back flush the system and get fresh coolant into it.

All bled and new antifreeze in, I hear the horror stories with trying to get these trucks bled, I can honestly say that in the half dozen times I've done both of my trucks I've never had an issue ( touches wood again ) I find its actually difficult to get themwarm enough to get the thermostat to open

Great result,I am sure I have read some where that the thermostat won't open when its just idling you have to drive it or rev it up to get it to open

I put the hand throttle up to 2k and turned the heater off to get it to open, I couldn't drive it as it had a wheel off, but it finally opened, I thought I had jinxed myself though as I went round to my mates and his neighbour shouted to me that there's a puddle of green water under my truck, thinking the worst I had a look and it was screen wash fluid leaking from one of the headlamp washers need to get a 1 way valve for that
