Bumper

#1 by McK , Sun Oct 21, 2012 9:53 pm

Got up late and had a busy day so had to put Tams sliders on hold till tomorrow night.

After dinner I got bored so made a little progress on a Hilux rear bumper I have been toying with.

COPY OF MY POST FROM HILUX.

Almost there with the rear bumper. Still to slash cut the ends to match the arch where the red tape is. {thanks to Tony N for sending me the arch}

Then both ends of bottom and top tubes will be capped and spanned with some sort of design on the plate. Not decided what. Brackets are on the truck and need removed and welded to the bumper and I need to decided if I am infilling that step section with Chequer plate or drilled aluminum.

To dark to show on the truck, I will paint and fit it next weekend to get a proper idea of what I like and don't like about it.

52mm or 2" I have not weighed it yet but it feels about 20kg

The step and notched infills are 32mm or 1"1/4

That rear bumber looks braw Manraj, but here's an idea, could that be re designed to have a winch inside it ????

Once I eventually get a front winch I would like a rear on fitted to but want it hidden in a bumper.

Just an idea, I also like the one with the spare wheel carrier & again would be even better with a winch incorporated in it.

If I had one sitting here I could copy it however, to make that from scratch from pictures and even with a truck for a fortnight would be to big a pain. I think you will find they will retail at a hefty price and that's them with CAD and CNC folding and cutting programs.

That's the kind of build I have done for my own trucks in the past but I wouldn't sign myself up to commit for others. Anyway, I think wellspaced out has already agreed to build forum bumpers so he might take these on for others.

some folk will pay that for a bumper that they then have to spend time and effort adjusting to make it fit. I know I did.

Well got my prototype finished today, please don't look to close as this was thrown together to give me an idea of what I like and don't like about it.
The orange is just so I can mess with it in photoshop. I think the step section will defiantly get an alloy in fill section maybe a closing a third of the space from the center line, drilled and shaped to add some interest. The brackets will be finished in black with black bolts to help them disappear from the eye.
