Epic day fitting the snorkel & induction filter. Surprised how well it went (except for a slight problem with the inner wing when the drill got knocked onto hammer setting & the hole saw didn't like it!). Lost a mini socket wrench down the wheel arch - thank f**k for flexible telescopic magnets!!!
Well pleased with the results though. Thanks to everyone for the help & advice

Quick update:
went for a short run today - oil temperature light in the red, radiator literally boiling over......
Whipped off the cheap Chinese K&N copy & put the old air filter box back on - problem solved!
Beware of the cheap copies - no idea what the problem was but it could have turned out very expensive!!!

something doesn't sound right there Ali ...... I'd be double checking you haven't knocked a pipe off or the like while you were under the bonnet
when rad gets hot it should chuck the excess water into the expansion tank, then, when it cools , suck it back in again
worth checking your dipstick to make sure you're not low on oil too

It was chucking water into the expansion tank
No steam from the rad itself but I could hear it boiling away.
Oil level was ok yesterday
All seems to be working fine with the old filter back on but I'll take it out for a proper run tomorrow & see

hope you get it sorted bud, in theory , the air filter alone shouldn't affect running temps
L200s (classics) are not always known for their bullet proof engines and it's not unknown for a headgasket problem to rear it's ugly head.
Sometimes people do a "temporary fix" and sell their truck on, alas it's the new owner that then has to sort out the problem.
search the forum for "overheating" and you'll find all sorts of info about EGR coolers going porous, rad caps needing replacing, water pumps needing replacing, water ways blocked, air locks and the like.
Keep a beady eye on that temp gauge especially if towing or up steep hills. If the temp gauge goes up then you need to sort it asap to avoid more expensive damage. What might be a relatively straight forward head gasket may turn into a cracked head if temps get too high.
That said, there have also been cases where a new rad cap is all it needs.
plenty of advice on here from people who have had these sorts of issues so if in doubt just ask

Battery light started coming on last few short trips and the voltage showing just under 12.Checked the belts and tweaked up the nut on the electrical connection and she now seems fine.Only thing though she takes over a mile to rise above 12v on the gauge? Can't recall that previously.

Yeah but need parking permits and they are not cheap, also limit to 2 per household, could always get rid of the Mrs's car though and get her to drive the truck.
