Hi,
62 reg barbarian manual, so the super select system (different from easy select - SS has viscous coupling and on the fly - so super select is permanent 4wd for tarmac too, and easy select isn't)(?)
Works fantastically but noticeably different from my Range Rover Evoque electronic system.
Anyhow, it normally takes a little while on the move to change from 4wd to 2wd. If, during this period with the front wheel lights flashing, i try to do any slow speed tight turns (parking for example), the car feels as if it is in total diff lock mode and winds up awfully; it feels like in treacle and is virtually impossible to move. I have to straighten up, go into and out of reverse, then the front wheel lights stop flashing - it is in ordinary 2wd mode and it is 'free' again.
It is as if, in the transition mode, it goes into full lock as an intermediate stage. weird.
Is this normal, or is it broken and expensive?
Regards
Peteturbo

if it helps ...... mine doesn't do that
we are talking about the first selection on the gearbox going to and from 2H to 4H aren't we ?
any flashing means that the gearbox is in a transition mode
once the light or lights are solid it means they are locked into that position
reading the handbook it does mention that keeping the steering straight and throttling off is the way to change from one to the other while moving
I've always stopped to change between 2WD and 4WD
if you've got your handbook it sort of explains it in chapter 4-33 , I'm assuming yours is a manual ?

Hi Kruty, thanks for the reply.
Yes, 2h to 4h, or actually 4h to 2h. 2h to 4h is easy and immediate.
Yes its manual.
Going to page 4-33 it does say; 'only while it can besteered straight ahead', and also doesn't say use the clutch, just release the accelerator and move the lever.
It also says the 2h to 4h may be heavy with the steerign wheel turned.
I guess there are a few hints that this behaviour might not be unexpected.
Cheers,
